Recently, Wilmington Area Rebuilding Ministry, WARM, met with ECU Health Community Hospital Board members to share about the work they do in Duplin County. WARM is a Community Benefit Grants Program recipient with ECU Health Duplin Hospital. The funds they've received through the program have allowed them to provide free home repairs for several low-income homeowners. These repairs include HVAC repairs or replacements, plumbing, appliance replacement and post-natural disaster repairs. Thank you for sharing the positive impact your work has made in the Duplin community!

Be Kind - Be Grateful Working our way to 100. Next 5 #74 – When you are the summer fair and you win a stuff animal playing games, look around and give to a child and ask them to name it for you and to keep good care of it for you. They will sleep well that night with their new friend. #73 – At your local community center or cork board at the grocery store, put up a message inviting people to give thanks to people that you know visit that location. Seeing your name unexpectedly on the board brings the biggest smile to their face. #72 – If you have old prescription glasses that you no longer use, consider giving them to Lions Club or another not-for-profit that will send them out to places where eyewear is hard to obtain and costly. #71 – There are migrate works that come to assist with agriculture farming and their only way to get around is typically a bike. Donate your old bike to these hard-working people that often do what we are not willing to do. #70 – With herb gardens at their peak, take extra herbs and make up little bundles to give to friends with a note attached to the mint saying, ‘you are worth a mint to me’. Leave on doorstep and keep them guessing on who this might have come from.

Update on Rural Medical Services in Newport, TN. Their clinics were not damaged by flood waters. They are, however, serving a community deeply impacted by the flooding. They are under a Boil and Conserve water warning for city water, thus causing two clinics to be closed. Internet is still spotty throughout the community and many residents are relying upon sites setup for internet connection by officials. The person I spoke with reported that she was unaware of any injured or displaced staff members, so there is the good news in this sad story. The needs are great there, though. Right now, donations are coming in for just about everything, but the first week, while these issues are in the news making headlines is when the donations are generous. Please continue to remember them next week, and in the weeks that follow. Power outages have caused people to have to throw away everything in their refrigerators. Specialty items like baby formulas (especially those for allergies), medications, power for medical equipment, etc. will continue to be needed in these communities affected by the storm for a while. Consider planning out donations from here in a week or two weeks, after the initial donations deplete and more is needed to help the community while they clean out the mud and muck and try to get the rebuilding started. Thank you for everything everyone is doing. Let's keep the aid coming as long as it is needed! (This image is likely copyrighted. I tried to find the name of the photographer who should be credited, but was unable to do so. I would like to ask forgiveness for using this without acknowledging the person by name...I am using it simply to assure this community gets help.)

Baby2Baby: Sends supplies for children and families. The Humane Society of the United States’?Emergency Animal Relief Fund: Helps animals impacted by disasters. World Central Kitchen: Prepares food and fresh water. Save the Children: Helps children and schools. American Red Cross: Delivers aid in a number of ways, including?mental health services. Direct Relief: Provides medical resources. Aerial Relief: Conducting water rescues, welfare checks and more aid. Donating to these organizations, amongst many others, can go a long way towards helping the victims of these natural disasters. The ones above have been reviewed and vetted by NBC News, and are prepared to assist in the aftermath. Combined with employer matching programs, your potential impact can be doubled. If you are not in a position to donate financially, remember that there are other ways to contribute that can all make a significant difference. Thank you for whatever support you are able to provide.

Costs are rising rising. Mobile Meals of Toledo has experienced a 25% increase in food costs, transportation, and, labor. Even with that we haven’t passed cost on. What does that mean? Do the math we are eating into our reserves. Also government, contract funding, and insurers increases support has only gone up from 0% to 6% in 3 years. Help us find a sustainable path forward
Meal costs have gone up 30% for Southeastern Idaho Community Action Agency, Inc. (SEICAA, Inc.)'s #MealsOnWheels program. They aren't alone. Rising costs for meals and gas are the top challenges our network faces as they continue delivering vital services to our aging neighbors.

Last Friday my wife Stacey Brumfield and I joined a group of 18 friends at 6am to deliver supplies to those affected by Helene in the Western North Carolina area. For a week prior we all had worked with our employers, family, friends and the community to collect donations of everything from sleeping bags, diapers, medicines, generators and pet food. Our group of 12 trucks split into two groups in an effort to divide and conquer. The video below shows us unloading just one of the stops, which was only half of what our larger group brought, just to illustrate the support we received from back home. It has taken me a few days to try and articulate what should be shared afterwards, and it's still overwhelming. So I will distill my thoughts down to just a few key thoughts: ~Many hands make for lighter work - Please don't mistake my use of this phrase to say that the work in NC, SC and TN is light, there is no amount of hands that could make the work there light. What I did experience was an incredible support structure of those that donated locally, to those that delivered the supplies and to the volunteers and victims who are boots on the ground collecting and distributing the supplies to those most in need. In every phase of this we were surrounded by folks who were passionate about helping lift others in such a challenging time. And we were just a really small part of what was a monumental amount of support this region saw of volunteers and supplies. ~Unity - There was one objective here, help those impacted, period. There was no division, no negativity and no complaining, just a clear focus on what needed to be done. It reminded me of a period of time after 9/11 where we were all united. It's warming to know that still exists and that it transcends everything else when it really counts. ~Some people are really selfless - I could share countless stories worth the read, but I'll limit it to two for now. The firsthand intel about what was going on in the impacted zones was from a lifelong friend, Cal Gray. Cal put his work/life on hold and just a few days into the rescue efforts and flew his personal helicopter to NC and spent 6 days flying missions into some of the most remote areas of the affected zones. Cal, Brooke Cremmins and Dan Cremmins were in the mix early and were able to provide much needed intel for our group on what was needed and provided contacts for local churches and drop zones. The second story is about a friend who called me day one into this and said he wanted to make a donation in his Father's name. The day prior to us leaving I receive a text from this friend providing much support and guidance, only to find out his Father passed 3 hours earlier. To think that not only was he processing the loss, he was thinking of us and those we were helping tells me everything about how he lives his life. I was in tears. Just WOW and THANK YOU all for the support!!!!

You know that Peterborough Humane Society receives pets in all sorts of physical and mental conditions, heals them and then adopts them to their fur-ever family. But what you might not know is we offer emergency boarding to pets of individuals feeling domestic violence. We provide these pets love and care for up to 30 days (before we re-engage with the owner) without cost to the individual. We can do this work because of supporters donating to our SNOOY (Safe Nights for Pets) fund. Now we want to expand SNOOPY to include individuals that are experiencing non-preventable situations like fire, flood and hospitalizations. But we need money to ensure we can help more individuals. This is where you come in. Please vote for our submission (link below) in the Community Contest presented by McDougall Insurance & Financial. This is a popularity contest and you can vote once a day per email. Voting ends next Friday so please vote now and tell someone else to vote for us. https://lnkd.in/ggvvhjyV
