This is important to know and yet not widely understood. Recycling feels good and we often feel like we did our part by carefully sorting our waste but are you doing this properly? Plastic bags and other thin films may not be curbside recyclable so putting them in the blue bin doesn't actually help. Understanding this is crucial. Let's do our part but let's do it right.

Do you truly recycle? CAN you truly recycle? Here's a wonderful article by Jason Galley of the Metal Packaging Manufacturers' association that cuts through the nonsense and tells it as it is

It's interesting (and exciting) when someone like PBD is discussing recycling! He makes some valid points. My thoughts: 1 - Plastic is one of the best materials for extended shelf life. Glass is heavy, tough to transport, and obviously comes with its own set of issues with breakage and energy to produce. Aluminum can have negative reactions with products. Paper, is well, paper...unless it's coated with plastic! 2 - If plastics were recycled at the same rates as aluminum and paper, would we still have this issue? Lots of brands out there use PCR (post consumer recycled content) and would use more if the cost wasn't higher than virgin plastics. 3 - What happens to the packaging collected in bottle bill states? Why don't we have more bottle bill states? 4 - Is plastic really the issue or is it the overwhelming demand for convenience which creates the market?
