WTF is AppLovin and is their push into E-Commerce a game-changer or overhyped? AppLovin is all over my Twitter feed. Everyone seems to be jumping on the hype bandwagon... so I did some research to break it down for you. ?? Applovin started in mobile app monetization, helping game developers acquire users and optimize ad revenue. ?? It's powered by Axon, an AI engine that delivers hyper-targeted ads to users. ?? Over 1.4 billion daily active users, its reach is insane. What's happening now? ??AppLovin is aiming its sights at e-commerce, offering brands access to its massive network for ad campaigns. ?? Early adopters claim ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) that rivals Meta and Google. ?? Fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands targeting female audiences (aged 25–45) have found success, thanks to AppLovin’s gaming-heavy inventory. The Hype vs. Reality ?? 39% revenue growth in Q3 2024?and a?600% rise in stock price this year - but those are really vanity metrics that don't actually help eComm advertisers. ?? The e-commerce platform is still in closed beta, with access restricted to high-spending advertisers ($20k per day). So most businesses haven’t had a chance to test its capabilities firsthand. ?? Gaming Roots:?Much of AppLovin’s success stems from its gaming network, which may not translate super well to all e-commerce niches - it hits a narrower demographic than broader platforms like Meta or Google. ?? ROI Variability:?While some brands report great ROAS, it’s still early days. The platform is unproven on a wider scale. Is It worth the Investment? For DTC brands targeting mobile-savvy, niche audiences—particularly in fashion or lifestyle—AppLovin offers potential for sure but time will tell if it set to be as big a player as Meta, Google or even Tiktok. We are testing right now :) Huge network, very low costs, and it’s improving daily. Main blocker for us as a brand focused on middle aged men, is that there is limited targeting options. So we can’t excluded ages or genders, meaning most people that see the ads won’t be interested in our product. But even with that, it’s getting closer to our Meta CAC each day
