We are pleased to inform you that our recent manuscript, titled "Employing Habitat Suitability Modeling to Assess the Distribution and Envenomation Potential of Scorpion Species in Iran," has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Medical Entomology. In this research, we identified at least three biodiversity hotspots in Iran that align with regions exhibiting the highest likelihood of envenomation by a venomous scorpion species.

The 8th-grade Entomology team of Cris Geesey, Calleigh Weiss, and Lillian Crowe competed in the Area VI FFA Entomology Contest. The team placed 2nd overall, with Cris placing 1st individually, Calleigh placing 4th individually, and Lillian placing 10th individually. This placing has also secured this team a spot to compete at the State Entomology Contest on December 14th at Purdue! The Entomology contest involves the identification of over 50 insects that are native to Indiana. The contestants must know the common names, along with the scientific order that each insect belongs to. Then, each contestant must take a 50-question knowledge exam regarding insect management, identification, and control.)

"Forensic Entomology" Role of Blow Fly Blow flies (Family: Calliphoridae) play a crucial role in forensic entomology, particularly in estimating post-mortem interval (PMI). Here's a comprehensive overview of their role and life cycle. Blow flies are crucial in determining how long someone has been dead. These flies lay eggs on dead bodies within 24 to 48 hours. The eggs then hatch into maggots, which feed and grow for three to seven days. After that, they transform into pupae for three to five days before emerging as adult flies. By analyzing the stage of the blow fly's life cycle, experts can estimate how long the person has been dead. For example: 1. Eggs indicate death within 24 to 48 hours. 2. Maggot size helps estimate time elapsed. 3. Pupae suggest death occurred five to 10 days ago. 4. Adult flies indicate death occurred seven to 14 days ago. However, factors like temperature, humidity, location, and body condition affect this estimate. Blow flies are usually the first insects to colonize dead bodies, making them a valuable tool in forensic investigations. #Forensicentomology #blowfly
