It's been a year already. Reflecting on the #AfricaClimateSummit23. Held in Nairobi last year, it was the inaugural climate summit -one of a kind to be held in Africa and this was preceeded by the #COP27 in Egypt. The theme was #PoweringGreenGrowth to meet sustainable development and climate action. Africa produces less than 1 % of the global emmission. This has been associated with poor industrialization and uptake of commercial and sophisticated production. When it comes to green growth and development, Africa and the developing world or nations are many steps behind. The scale of industrialization achieved and powered by fossil fuels is immense and Africa ?? is at a moral dilemma over the consequence of late industrialization and the realization that sustainable development has to be powered by renewable and clean energy sources. The consequence will be huge as Africa relies on imported technology such as solar , hydrogen, to power industrialization to scale. The Nairobi declaration is yet to achieve tangible results considering the missed targets in the Paris Agreement for developing nations to contribute $100B for climate action. With discussion shifting to shared goals and responsibilities and the New collective Quantitative goal - #NCQG , to address such gaps in climate financing model to support poverty eradication and sustainable development. COP29 Azerbaijan is a defining moment where the 2015 Paris Agreement and indeed the #NewCollectiveQuantifiedGoal will be negotiated as a part of the 29th UN climate summit.
