Our recent Disabled Veterans Study found that only 28% of disabled veterans experiencing mental health challenges report an easy transition to civilian employment. This number highlights a critical gap in support for those who have served our country. That’s why Easterseals is proud to introduce our new mental health screening tool, designed to provide veterans with the resources they need to navigate this transition. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting veterans' well-being and ensuring they receive the comprehensive care they deserve. On Veterans Day, we set aside time to honor the contributions of those who have served. Throughout their service, they often navigate deployments, trauma-related stressors, multiple geographic moves, and other factors that can make it difficult to prioritize mental wellbeing. It’s important they know that they are not alone as they face the unique journey of transitioning from the pride of uniformed service to continued meaningful contributions in civilian life. #pgclinical

Veterans often encounter significant mental health challenges following their military service, which can impact their transition to civilian life. Evaluating the extent of a veteran's mental and neurological impairments is complex. Consequently, the Veterans Affairs (VA) often employs the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Score as a tool to assess mental disorders in veterans effectively. ?????? ???????? ???? ?? ?????? ??????????, ?????? ???????? ???????? ???? ???????? ?????? ?????? ???? ?????? ???????? ?????????????? ???????????????????? ????????????? A GAF (Global Assessment of Functioning) score is essential for veterans seeking a Veterans Affairs rating for mental health conditions such as PTSD. The primary objective of the GAF score is to provide clinicians with a standardized method to assess the level of support an individual with a mental health disorder might need due to their condition, potentially necessitating frequent therapy sessions or ongoing medical treatment. Another study of ours has been published thanks to the leadership and great brains trust of Sharon Lawn et al! The objective of this study was to describe families’ experiences of supporting Veterans/PSP seeking help for mental health concerns and formulate a conceptual model to illustrate the impacts of these experiences on families. #moralinjury #moraldistress #vicarioustrauma #militaryveteranfamilies #veteranhealth International Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health This study offers a detailed model of how moral distress can arise for families of Veterans/PSP who experience mental health concerns. It demonstrates how organizational culture at Departments of Defence, Veterans’ Affairs, and public safety groups exclude families, exacerbating a sense of moral distress. Implications and recommendations for Veteran/PSP organizations and health professionals to promote more meaningful involvement and consideration of families is discussed. Implications and recommendations for Veteran/PSP organizations and health professionals to promote more meaningful involvement and consideration of families is discussed in the body of the paper. Transitioning from military to civilian life can come with its mental health challenges for veterans. To assess these challenges effectively, the Veterans Affairs (VA) often relies on a tool called the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) Score. But what does this score mean for you as a veteran seeking support for conditions like PTSD? Essentially, it's a standardized way for clinicians to gauge the level of assistance you might need due to your mental health condition. This could range from therapy sessions to ongoing medical treatment. Want to dive deeper into understanding how the GAF Score impacts your journey? Critical investments in maternal mental health for military families! The Maintaining our Obligation to Moms who Serve (MOMS) will improve the mental health of military moms by supporting a program to prevent and treat maternal mental health conditions and bring evidence-based maternal mental health programs into the military’s health care system.
Thank you for supporting military moms! The bipartisan Maintaining our Obligation to Moms who Serve Act (MOMS Act) just passed both the House and Senate! The MOMS Act will provide crucial mental health support to military service members and their families who are facing mental health challenges during pregnancy and birth. Did you know that military moms are 2 to 3 times more likely to experience mental health issues than civilian moms? The MOMS Act is a big step toward making sure our moms who serve get the help they deserve. This will make a real difference in the lives of many military families.

At Ada, we recognize the profound impact the days leading into and out of Memorial Day can have on former military members. For many veterans, especially those living with PTSD, Memorial Day can create a resurgence of war memories and trauma. This period can be particularly challenging, amplifying feelings of anxiety and distress. Research has shown that veterans often prefer the confidentiality and non-judgmental interaction that digital resources provide for managing their mental health. Our AI-powered symptom assessment tool offers a safe and private space for veterans to assess their symptoms accurately, without fear of stigma. Our platform, known for its precision and stringent data security, guides veterans towards appropriate health actions and resources whenever and wherever they need it. ??? As an organization committed to delivering accurate health information for everyone, we stand by our veterans – providing digital tools that offer support and, for many, a way forward. We are dedicated to ensuring that no veteran feels alone in their journey. ??? #MentalHealthAwareness #MemorialDay #Veterans #MentalHealth #PTSD

With recent events that have transpired in the news, my thoughts have been with the families who lost their loved ones to senseless acts of violence. ?????? As the news comes out that both acts were carried out by Military service members, it brings up a conversation I often have about being proactive vs. reactive in addressing warning signs for violence, suicide, and mental health concerns. For many veterans and active-duty service members, the challenges don’t end when the uniform comes off or the deployment ends. Transitioning to civilian life, navigating mental health struggles, finding stable employment, or simply feeling understood in a world that may not grasp their sacrifices can be overwhelming. If we genuinely prioritize the mental health and well-being, of Active Duty Service Members and Veterans then we must ask ourselves: How can we translate our words into action? Words are powerful, but actions change lives??Let’s all commit to making a difference in 2025. It starts with us ???? #MentalHealthMatters #TakeAction #SuicidePrevention #BuddyCheck #PreventViolence #BeyondWords

"Mental health support shouldn't end when military service does." On Thursday evening, I attended a powerful event on preventing suicide in the veteran community, hosted by The Rifles at London's historic Barber Surgeons' Hall in London. My takeaways: + There's a critical gap in mental health support during the civilian transition. When military personnel leave service, they're not just changing jobs – they're rebuilding their entire identity. We need to do more to help at this point. + We underestimate how difficult it is for people to put their hand-up or self-refer. We must educate families to spot the signs too, and deliver proactive support and prevention. + Community matters. The strongest support systems are built on understanding, connection, and early intervention. I'm incredibly proud of Leafyard’s work with The Rifles, and so pleased that since July this year, we hit a turning point together in bridging this crucial gap – and providing mental fitness tools that support veterans and their families through one of life's biggest transitions. So impressed by The Rifles' commitment to proactive support networks. They understand the power of education, training, community and action. Suicide is NOT inevitable. We have to keep asking the question – if someone needed help, would they know where to turn? #MentalHealth #Prevention #VeteranSupport #MentalFitness The Rifles Network Barber-Surgeons' Hall Baz Melia Pete Corbin
