Yesterday, Fighting Illini Men's Basketball center Morez Johnson Jr. served meals at Daily Bread Soup Kitchen with Dunkin' On Hunger winner Ryan Newlin. Thanks to Ryan and all of the Dunkin' On Hunger donors, nearly 2,000 meals will be provided to our neighbors experiencing hunger this holiday season! https://lnkd.in/e3YaMY_K

Attention friends and colleagues! ?? At Friends with Food, we're deeply concerned about the hunger crisis affecting our beloved state of Wisconsin. ????? Did you know that 1 in 6 children and 1 in 8 people overall face hunger in every county and congressional district? ?? It's a stark reality that we must address together. While programs like SNAP provide temporary assistance, generating over $1.3 billion in economic activity, charitable programs alone cannot fully support those in need. ?? It takes a combination of government assistance and community efforts to bridge the meal gap effectively. This is where YOU come in! ?? We invite you to join us in making a difference. Consider volunteering at your local food bank or advocating for lawmakers to prioritize hunger relief in Wisconsin. ??? Your voice matters, and together, we can create lasting change. Let's start a conversation! Share your thoughts, experiences, or ideas for addressing hunger in our communities. ?? Don't forget to like and share this post to spread awareness and inspire others to take action. ?? Together, we can ensure that no one in Wisconsin goes hungry. ?? #FeedWisconsin #EndHungerNow

September is Hunger Action Month. What does this rally mean? In 2008 Feeding America started this nationwide campaign in the US to create awareness and encouraging action in the fight against hunger. The goal is to bring together communities, organizations, and individuals to inspire collective efforts to fight hunger & food insecurity. Facts for Awareness: ?? Approximately 44 million people in the U.S (one in six people) relies on food assistance. Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive. ?? 13 million of those are children ?? 100% of U.S. counties have food insecurity. The Tacombi Foundation is providing food access in 7 different cities as of today (NYC, Arlington, Bethesda, Westport, Westbury, Miami & Chicago. Inspiration for Action: Today, I'm inspired by five amazing individuals that are transforming the awareness to action by running the NYC Marathon as a way to amplify the message and raise funds. I hope you get inspire by them too and support them in their efforts to rase funds to provide access to culturally sensitive meals to hispanic families through the Tacombi Foundation. https://lnkd.in/g2e-e2_g Josh Omin, David Lujan, Stephen Mendez, Megan Carino, Laura Ruiz. ?? Add your name in the comments section if you feel inspired to help them reach their goal whether with a donation or otherwise.

This project was both fun and saddening. Over 1000 children told us why food is important to them. Many showed us that systemic #hunger issues are recognized even at such a young age. Some notable quotes: "If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger." "Hunger is something no one should struggle with or be judged for." "They got money for wars but can't feed the poor." "If you can't feed 100 people, then just feed one. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." "Food is important to me because I have food but not everyone has food." "Food is important to me because it helps you physically and mentally. Don't stop eating because you're unhappy with your body." "A pointed commentary on the class divide, how food is sustenance for some and decadence for others." #HungerActionDay #HungerActionMonth
It's Hunger Action Day! Today, we filled the James Renshaw Orchard with 1,500 orange paper plates decorated by local children to raise awareness about food insecurity. The 1,500 plates represent the number of students in the Erie Public School District who receive a bag from the Second Harvest BackPack Program weekly. The program discreetly places kid-friendly, nutritious foods in participating children’s backpacks on Fridays to ensure they have what they need over the weekend and during school breaks. 1 in 5 children in northwest Pennsylvania experience food insecurity. Join us during Hunger Action Month! Every action counts - whether you donate, advocate, volunteer, or spread the word. Let's end hunger together. www.nwpafoodbank.org #HungerActionDay #NWPAFoodBank #HungerActionMonth

During the month of October, businesses and organizations across North County San Diego come together to help Scare Away Hunger by collecting jars of peanut butter for local children and families in need. The Carlsbad Chamber is proud to be a drop-off location all month long! Stop by with your favorite (no glass please) peanut butter anytime Monday-Friday, between 10am-4pm. Why Peanut Butter? Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein for children and families. It’s popular with kids, shelf-stable, and one jar can provide more than 12 sandwiches. Peanut butter is very expensive for the Food Bank to purchase. That’s why this year’s peanut butter food drive will be instrumental in helping stock the Food Bank’s shelves with this nutrient-rich superfood for local families in need. Who Benefits from the Donations? Did you know? 1 in 4 children faces food insecurity in San Diego County, including those living in North County communities. All donations will be distributed to North County families in need through the Food Bank’s direct food distributions and our nonprofit partners’ hunger relief programs. Can't make it? Donate peanut butter virtually: https://buff.ly/3zDxeAa

Our hearts ache for the communities in Nebraska and Oklahoma impacted by the recent devastating tornadoes. We at Heart on Main Street know all too well the spirit and strength of independent businesses and their vital role in a town's fabric. These storms may have brought down buildings, but they can't break the resilience of Nebraska's or Oklahoma's independent retailers. We're here to stand with them, and we need your help. Heart on Main Street is launching a fundraising campaign in partnership with The Boutique Hub, and we're inviting you to participate. Every dollar you contribute will directly support independent businesses affected by the tornadoes, helping them rebuild, restock, and reopen their doors. These businesses are more than just shops; they're the heartbeat of our communities. They're the corner store where you grab a morning coffee and chat with the owner, the boutique where you find that perfect outfit and the bookstore that fuels your imagination. They're the backbone of our communities, and they need our support now more than ever. Here's how you can help: ?Donate: Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference. Visit our website (or social media pages) to donate securely. ?Spread the word: Share this campaign with your friends and family on social media. ?Shop Local (Even From Afar): Many affected businesses have online stores. Consider making a purchase to help them get back on their feet. Let's help Nebraska and Oklahoma's independent retailers rise from the rubble, rebuild their dreams, and bring their vibrant spirit back to Main Street. Remember, we are better together!
