If Ms. Dr. Lesli Gooch the exalted one is concerned about the portrayal of manufactured home communities, why aren’t MHI leaders pushing to enforce their own Code of Ethical Conduct? We talked about being in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill this week advocating for affordable home ownership solutions, but we never said what those solutions were. So here they are, in brief, and you can see here how some of these funds have directly impacted Habitat Goldsboro-Wayne and our families. Of the nearly 100 homes built across Wayne and now into Lenoir counties, nearly half have been impacted in some fashion by federal HUD funds. Whether those are funds that helped to subsidize the construction of the home or direct down payment assistance, these funds have helped to make mortgages affordable and the need is greater now than ever before. SHOP (Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program) helps to fund land acquisition and infrastructure. HOME (HOME Investment Partnerships Program) helps to pay for construction, down payment assistance and can be used for home repairs. And, though not reflected here, we also have homeowners who have used USDA's Section 502 direct loan program in order to afford their homes in our rural areas. So if someone says the federal government doesn't have a role to play in affordable housing, you can point them here as the tip of that iceberg!
