Half of the #online travel platforms have defaulted the direct #marketing option for users as "agreed", according to the latest report from Hong Kong's #privacy watchdog. Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong (PCPD) 香港個人資料私隱專員公署 (PCPD) previously reviewed 10 online travel platforms commonly used by citizens to understand how these platforms collect and use the personal data of their users, including Agoda, EGL Tours Company Limited, Expedia Group, Goldjoy Group, Miramar Travel, Sunflower Travel Service Limited, Travel Experts, Inc., Trip.com Group, Hong Kong Wing On Travel Service Limited and #WWPKG. #AdaChung, the privacy commissioner for personal data, said “I am pleased to see that some operators of the online travel platforms have taken actions to #improve the provision of privacy #protection information and the user interface design of their platforms in the course of the review." #onlinetravel

Susan's Getaways - Tips for staying at an all-inclusive resort! 1. Save any important information regarding your trip and contact numbers. If your phone loses signal you will still have access to this information. 2. We recommend making copies of your passports to have all of your information handy if you go off site or if they get lost. Leave these copies in the safe in your room. 3. Call your credit card company and let them know you will be out of the country. Ask if there are any international charges for using it out of the country. 4. Take some money for tips or a little spending money. $1s and $5s are good. Gratuities are included at the resort, so it is up to you if you would like to tip someone that goes above and beyond. 5. Check with your cellphone provider about international charges. We recommend turning off your mobile data and connecting to WiFi. WhatsApp is also a great app to send international texts. *** Travel Hack *** My travel plans changed suddenly last week (invited to a Family Office lunch in Abu Dhabi and had planned to fly from Doha to Riyadh that day) and thought it instructive to show the value of using Aeroplan points on non-Canada flights. The economy class flight on Etihad was AED 787 (~CAD200) so the use of points to get a seat is not that advantageous - it works out to about 1.3c per point. Take note that I buy points for 1.5-1.7c or so, so not a great rate. But looking at business class (so many benefits, priority check-in/baggage/+2 pieces included/security/boarding/nice seats...) has a cash price about $1,400 or a cost per mile used of ~8.7c. Let's just say that, given the choice, I'd book in business for all of the advantages listed above. Since it's close to the date, the timing is pretty brutal (get to the airport at 3am) but only this one can get me there for the lunch...and this after a Google search! For those who look to jet around a region (same for my PacRim flights in May), using points to get business class is the best use of points. The worst: gift cards.
