Last week, Minds Matter Boston was featured in the The Harvard Crimson. The article looked at 21 "feeder schools" - affluent high schools, the majority of which are private schools located in the Northeast - that disproportionately send students to Harvard. MMB was featured as a nonprofit organization working to improve access to Harvard, and other highly competitive colleges nationwide, who attend public high schools here in Boston and beyond. Check out eye-opening article below. https://lnkd.in/eQCjfT5T

#Linkedin All the signing of the recent Executive Orders did was allow certain institutions of the U.S.A to show their True, Present and VERY Dangerous Colors. Trust the #Statistics, those colors aren’t representative of anything #BIPOC or #inclusive to the Majority of the Global Population. They represent a small .07% of a #Wealth #Holding #ruling and scarce #minority Here’s the larger picture, the lesson we’ve learned over this past week is, #oppression which is essentially “the feared survival of a weakened minority”, doesn’t segregate! It will target itself once it understands the nature of it’s own overarching threat! In #Criminal #Psychology, this is called a Murder-Suicide #plot According to this trend, this year #2025 will likely end in #Implosion & #War for this minority group. Being able to design a sentient #AI comes with an ablility to forecast holistic outcomes. Align yourself with #sustainability ????

Today is Teacher's Day in Brazil, and thank you to Literacy Pittsburgh for the opportunity I had on this special day. Today, I stepped out of my role as an English student, and the teacher Pam gave me the freedom to bring material about the sector I work in, drawing a parallel with the history of the nonprofit sector in Pittsburgh. We discussed two topics more deeply with the other students: The Nonprofit Sector in the U.S. The nonprofit sector, also known as the third sector, plays a crucial role in the U.S. economy and society. It is made up of organizations that operate independently of the government and focus on addressing social, cultural, environmental, and educational issues. Unlike businesses in the private sector, nonprofits do not aim to make a profit; instead, their main goal is to serve the public good. The Nonprofit Sector in Pittsburgh Pittsburgh has a long and rich history in the nonprofit sector, shaped by its industrial past and philanthropic leadership. Once known as a steel-producing powerhouse, the city has transformed itself into a hub for education, healthcare, and innovation, supported by a strong nonprofit ecosystem. #nonprofit

https://gofund.me/835aec3a Q: When is donating money to a fraternity a sensible decision? A: When higher education is under attack from extremism on every side fueled by a mass media and social media landscape that promotes conflict in order to weaken our institutions. When there is finally a push for the middle. When there is real optimism and progress toward bringing everyone together and putting the unity back into community. When there is a spark of hope that we are turning this thing around and returning to the values that make our country great. When we recognize that we are all stronger together no matter what our individual beliefs and that we owe it to one another to come together while respecting and embracing the issues that divide us. When we start to realize once again that diversity is a superpower and the American democracy is built upon differences in culture, differences in beliefs, and differences of opinion. When you realize that the institutions in our country that promote individual thought and academic freedom are the basis of our strength. When you see that our children are finally emerging from the cloud of Covid and learning again how to socialize and share their lives together. When you stop to remember how much the fraternities, teams, groups, organizations that were foundational in your college experience shaped the rest of your life. When it really matters. In other words... today.

As university solidarity encampments spring up across the nation, I’d like to call attention to the powerful and passionate students who continue to place a collective need ahead of their own, individual work/ school/ personal schedules (especially my friends in Evanston). It’s been difficult to locate research on this topic, but I’ve personally seen over the years that many racial/ social justice protest-goers (especially at universities) are FGLI, non-White, and thus more likely to face racially-influenced police abuse and monetary stress than their often absent White peers (see comments for data examples). ?? “White people in North America live in a social environment that protects and insulates them from race-based stress” (White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo, 2011). Remaining silent and avoiding stress-inducing situations such as the current encampments are both key indicators of White fragility, and remaining apolitical is a privilege because it demonstrates comfort with the status quo. I encourage you to use your privilege now to support these brave Northwestern University students! Update: The students’ venmo and gofundme are both currently down, so they’re asking you to donate to organizations such as (LinkedIn is removing the links I put here, so see comments)

“…there are 4,000 degree-granting post-secondary institutions in the United States. About 40% are public, a similar number are private nonprofit, and almost 20% are for-profit. Public institutions tend to be the largest, averaging about 9,000 students (including both undergraduate and graduate students students); about 75% of students are enrolled in this sector. Private nonprofit colleges and universities, which enroll an average of about 2,500 students, account for about 20% of enrollments…Most college faculty and administrators could have pursued more lucrative careers, but they have chosen not to put money at the top of their priority list. Moreover, their function at work is not to maximize the institution’s revenues or minimize its costs…For those whose role within the institution is primarily to ensure financial stability, the core mission may sometimes fade into the background.”
