Had the privilege of studying the engineering design this week. Pretty powerful how the engineers did the design because the base plates were pinned in both directions, complex bracing system to reduce forces, moment frames in both directions to reduce sway and long span girders to reduce vibrations and noises. I always enjoy relaxing with a cup of tea, while my classical jazz is playing and reading over articles from AISC. The ultimate happy place for me. #steelconstruction #structuralengineering #steeldesign

The offset Sportal concept would provide a projectwith many benefits, including but not limited to: The portal could be installed without requiring any headspan modifications, therefore a high quantity could be installed during NBS access periods with lower risk to RTHB. Main steel and SPS installation is curtailable in the new option Less risk posed to conversion with regard existing mast orientation, as top wire removal is no longer a pre requisite to portal installation. The transferring of the OLE to SIC / MIR style support and registrations could then be staged and tailored to specific areas and access regimes. This could be completed incrementally or wholesale based on access and resource, providing a wide array of benefits & efficiencies and massively mitigating DWWP risks Having worked on Crossrail West where 4 locations were converted shortly after the ECML trial, the belief was that extensive ALB possessions were a dependency (all 4 were completed over 2 Xmas blockades), but this novel approach adds a whole new perspective to MVP optioneering / SPEED logic assessment for life expired headspan assets, making full conversion and the benefits that brings a more viable option, allowing critical areas such as stations, level crossings and crossovers to be considered
