This sounds like a great AI event for anyone in the LA area mid-October. Two disclosures: 1) I work for Kindo, so of course I think it sounds great 2) I haven't participated in a hackathon (yet, but one is on the calendar). But here's what I think is the best part - if you're at the hackathon and using Kindo, if you click on the customer support button, you get to talk to me about Kindo, AI, prompting, use cases, or even your thoughts on the best restaurant near the event. A very worth watching video of OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy's keynote speech at the 2024 UC Berkeley AI Hackathon Awards. Andrej Karpathy, co-founder of OpenAI, explains the new computing paradigm: "We're moving into a new computing paradigm where large language models are like cpus, using tokens instead of bytes, and have a context window instead of RAM. This is the Large Language Model OS (LMOS)." Andrej shared his passion for hackathons in his talk, emphasizing the tremendous energy and creativity that such events bring, especially the innovative spirit that young people show in them. He pointed out that the field of artificial intelligence has undergone tremendous development in the past 15 years, from the initial academic research to the current widespread application, the change is remarkable. In particular, the rise of large language models has completely changed the paradigm of computing, making computing not only deal with bytes, but also deal with language and context, which opens new doors for the application of artificial intelligence. He reflected on his experience at OpenAI, describing the company's journey from eight people working out of an apartment to today's nearly $100 billion industry giant. Through the accumulation and development of small projects, OpenAI finally achieved a huge breakthrough. Andrej particularly stressed the importance of project experience, pointing out that many seemingly small projects can end up having an unexpected and huge impact. He also referred to the "10,000 hours" rule, emphasizing that success comes from repeated practice and a lot of effort, and that only through continuous effort and project-driven learning can you acquire true expertise in a field. He encourages everyone to do more projects, to promote their learning and progress through projects, and to gain a sense of accomplishment and motivation by sharing and publishing projects. Finally, Andrej looked ahead to the future development of artificial intelligence and technology, pointing out that we are in a unique era where AI will be further integrated into our lives, bringing more possibilities and challenges. He hopes that everyone can start with small projects, continue to accumulate experience, and eventually have a positive impact on the world, and jointly shape a better future.
