"House Republicans' narrow majority could get even smaller if Democrats flip Santos' old seat on Tuesday. Former Rep. Tom Suozzi faces off against relative newcomer Republican Mazi Pilip in a costly and closely watched race. The outcome could provide early indications of November's elections. Republicans hope to maintain a competitive edge in the nation's suburbs, while Democrats seek to flip the seat. Immigration policies and ties to former leaders are key issues in the campaign. One vote could make a major difference in the House. #Election2022 #HouseRepublicans #TomSuozzi #MaziPilip #SuburbanPolitics"

From The Independent reviving this oldie but goodie I wrote in February 2020, ahead of the 2020 US elections. In it, I argue: "If a Democratic candidate is elected to be the United States’ 47th president on November 3rd, it will be despite [the] unresolved intra-party struggle." What we have come to remember of the 2020 race was the #pandemic overhang, the close election result, January 6th and all things #electionintegrity. Yet, there is another lesser noticed trend-line that remains salient for the #2024 #USelections: the question of party (dis)unity. Last time around, President Biden emerged from a wide field of primary entrants, sidestepping the question of what next for the progressive wing of the party. Now with the #israelhamaswar and #foreignpolicy on everyone's mind, polarized US voters will confront head-on the state of party politics in America. #geopolitics #risk

By way of update, on February 15, 2024, the #newyorkstate #redistricting panel released its new map. If adopted, the #Congressional districts it proposes would make one seat more favorable for #Democratic candidates and shore up two other districts for the respective current incumbants, a Democratic and a #Republican. The New York State #legislature must now approve the map. The legislature, which is controlled by the Democratic party, will have the opportunity to make modifications to the panel's proposed map. The big question is whether the legislature will take an aggressive approach and try to create more seats that favor #Democrats? Or, in the wake of litigation that struck down the map it drew before the 2022 #elections, resulting in this "redo", will the legislature take a conservative approach and either adopt the panel's map or make minor modifications? The stakes are high for the #2024elections as the #houseofrepresentatives is currently controlled by the Republican party 219-213. Stay tuned as the process will continue to be interesting and consequential. #Congress #politics https://lnkd.in/eXzBJ-hu

It is great to see that the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is thinking long-term. At MoveIndigo, we are too. Our 2030 goal is to have enough Democratic presence in state legislatures and governors' mansions to counteract Republican gerrymandering after the 2030 census/redistricting and to prevent other voter suppression tactics. When Democrats who are relocating realize that they don't have to compromise on their important moving priorities AND they can be game changers at the ballot box, they are excited about the prospect. There are more than 30 districts where Democratic movers can have an immediate impact in the House races in November 2024. Read about the Democratic strategy here. And then visit the MoveIndigo.org to check out the exciting districts that want your vote and your voice. #2024elections #voteblue https://lnkd.in/eHFddFKy

Whether you’re a voter, a business leader, or a community advocate, understanding the factors shaping South Carolina’s future is essential. At Alpha Strategies, we’re committed to providing the insights and clarity needed to navigate complex issues and drive positive change in our state. As South Carolina’s legislative landscape shifts with the addition of 32 new faces across both chambers, understanding the impact on our state’s future has never been more important. 2024 South Carolina Election Results In this election cycle, all 170 seats in the South Carolina #StateHouse were on the ballot, though over half were uncontested in the general election. Results reinforced Republican control of the legislature, with Democratic influence concentrated in specific districts. State Senate Results?(46 Seats: 34 Republicans / 12 Democrats) Republicans entered the election one seat shy of a two-thirds supermajority and managed to flip four seats, securing a 34-seat supermajority that allows them to end filibusters more easily. Pending recounts in Senate Districts 17 and 29, Republicans successfully unseated Democratic incumbents Sen. Mike Fanning, Sen. Gerald Malloy, Sen. Kevin Johnson, and Sen. Vernon Stephens. Republican challengers Everett Stubbs, JD Chaplin, Jeff Zell, and Tom Fernandez won those seats. ? The Senate will include 13 new members: nine Republicans and four Democrats: Republicans: Allen Blackmon, JD Chaplin, Jason Elliott, Tom Fernandez, Matt Leber, Carlisle Kennedy, Roger Nutt, Everett Stubbs, and Jeff Zell. Democrats: Jeffrey Graham, Russell Ott, Ed Sutton, and Overture Walker. State House Results?(124 Seats: 88 Republicans / 35 Democrats / 1 Vacancy) In the House, Republicans retained their 88-seat supermajority, with no change in the balance of power. Although Democrats made minor gains in some districts, these did not impact the overall House composition. Key outcomes included Democratic incumbent Rep. Joe Jefferson’s loss to Republican Harriet Holman and Democrat Jermaine Johnson’s win in a redistricted open seat. Democratic incumbent Marvin Pendarvis, who resigned before the election, technically won re-election, though it is unclear if he will serve. The House welcomed 19 new members: 15 Republicans and four Democrats: Republicans: Phillip Bowers, Adam Duncan, Lee Gilreath, Blake Sanders, Luke Rankin, Stephen Frank, Paul Wickensimer, David Martin, Chris Huff, Scott Montgomery, Sarita Edgerton, Jackie Terribile, Charles Hartz, Harriet Holman, and James Teeple. Democrats: Hamilton Grant, Jason Scott Luck, Jerry Govan, and Robert Reese. #GovernmentRelations #AlphaStrategies #SouthCarolina
