?? One molecule is all it'll take! A molecule represents the smallest fundamental unit of a compound. Researchers have created a sensor that can detect diseases with incredible precision, using just a single molecule. This could be a game-changer for early disease detection and personalised medicine. Here's what makes this technology so groundbreaking: ● Single-Molecule tests: Current tests need millions of molecules to detect disease, but this new tool can get useful data from just one molecule. This dramatically increases sensitivity and allows for detection at the earliest stages. ● Early Detection: This technology could detect infections within 24 to 48 hours, compared to several days with current tests. This would be a major advantage in controlling fast-spreading diseases. ● Portable Diagnostics: The device could be made into a small, portable diagnostic kit, perhaps as small as a USB drive. This could make testing more accessible in homes and clinics. ● Personalised Medicine: It can measure subtle differences between individual proteins, which could help doctors design more personalised treatments. The ability to study proteins in new ways opens doors for understanding how slight changes in their structure can affect health. This cutting-edge research, supported by the National Human Genome Research Institute, aims to refine nanopore use for sensing molecules, viruses, and other nanoscale entities. It is expected that this technology will become a standard feature in research and healthcare tools and potentially part of everyday diagnostic kits. Source: University of California, Riverside What are your thoughts on this innovative approach to disease detection?? Possibly time to re-think #Theranos ?
