Here’s a real-world example of why “saving” on tech talent can cost you more in the long run (just to back up my take from yesterday) ?? Let’s say you hire an inexperienced product designer to save money. They create a design for your app or software, but it’s overly complex and doesn’t account for how developers will build it. Now your dev team is spending way more time coding those complicated design elements, driving up costs and delaying delivery. An experienced designer would’ve created something clean, functional, and easier to build—saving time and money. The paradox is, you often won’t even realise where you’re losing money—because the impact isn’t always obvious. #software #product #growth

During our product development process, we're constantly thinking about prioritization. What do we build next? Do we focus on satisfaction drivers (something shiny ?) or dissatisfaction drivers (where is my ?? ) ? We've added a lot of new features that relate to the latter lately. We think we've drastically improved the way investors get (financial) reporting from us, but we also try to give context, and try to never just 'drop' information on our users. One of the things that product designers need to stop doing is treating developers as if they have zero concept of what a good user experience is. Developers are the ones actually coding our experiences, it's mandatory that they think of all edge cases, because they are actually building these interactions. They test their code in real time to see if it works, they have deep understanding of the limits of our flows. Some of the best designers I know, are actually devs who have gained design knowledge after years of directly building technology. Design is a part of the show, not THE show.
