More than 300 volunteers packed 60,000 meals for local food insecure families on Martin Luther King Day in locations across the Triangle. Rotary District 7710 coordinated partnerships for the 18th year between clubs in Clayton, Raleigh and Durham - along with partners like Duke University, Duke School, the Interfaith Food Shuttle and Meals of Hope. Shout out to ABC11 WTVD-TV for its coverage in Durham, and to the Mayors of each city for helping us spread the statistics on the need! #RotaryDistrict7710 #DurhamRotary ##DukeUniversity #Partnerships #ABC11 #MLKPackingDay https://lnkd.in/eDzeb5e8

"There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right." -Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As we look ahead to the next four years, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to the prosperity of the communities we serve and the pursuit of a better, more equitable future for all. Dr. King's words and his legacy fortify us as we push forward on the path of inclusive philanthropy. His strength and resolve, even in the face of imprisonment, violence and hatred, remind us our work is crucial. We may not see change tomorrow, next year, or even in our own lifetimes. But we must continue to fight for future generations. #mlk #martinlutherkingjr #martinlutherking #dei #diversityequityandinclusion #inclusivephilanthropy #fundraising #nonprofit #highereducation #highered #deib #diversity #equity #inclusion #antiracism #antiracist #advocacy #socialjustice #advocate

This year, MLK Jr. Day and Inauguration Day land on the same date - a stark reminder of the difference between Dr. King’s vision of justice and the forces working against it. Vu Le’s latest article asks our sector: Will we stand firm for equity and justice, or will we play it safe and let injustice grow? Let’s rise to the challenge with action and intention: ?? Stay committed to DEI and racial justice and talk about it proudly. ?? Build partnerships to support and protect one another. ?? Help boards, donors, and peers understand why standing up for justice matters. ?? Take on bold work that addresses the root causes of injustice, even when it’s hard. Dr. King taught us that staying silent or settling for “peace” without justice isn’t enough. Instead of just sharing his quotes, we need to honor his legacy by acting with courage ?? ?? The importance of research and science. Scripture is a field that goes beyond research and helps with Cancer.
Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose vision for equity and service aligns with the values of our founder, Danny Thomas, and continues to inspire the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Dr. King once said, "If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way." At St. Jude, we see the profound impact of small acts of kindness and care every day. Since before we opened our doors in 1962, Danny Thomas envisioned St. Jude as a place that would break down barriers to health care and provide equal access to life-saving treatments—regardless of race, religion or financial status. Memphis holds a deep connection to Dr. King’s legacy, and we encourage reflection and service during this time. Whether through community clean-ups, donation drives or supporting the work of organizations like the National Civil Rights Museum, we have an opportunity to honor his vision in meaningful ways. Let Dr. King's words inspire us all to serve our patients, families and communities with compassion and purpose, every day. #MLKDay
