???? Thank you for all of your hard work this summer, Sean Evans! It was a pleasure having you on the design team. ?? Thrive is a 10-week summer internship program for second-year students from historically underrepresented communities in tech. This gives them the opportunity to develop their technical skills while working at Duolingo. This program is really special because we learn just as much from our Thrive interns as they do from us. ?? #duolingo #onlyatduolingo #design

? And just like that... my 10-week internship at Duolingo comes to an end! Here are 3 highlights that made this experience unforgettable. 1. ?? Growth When I joined Duolingo as part of the Thrive Program, my primary goal was to dive further into the world of product design and emerge as a more refined and thoughtful designer. The experience exceeded my expectations. From the first day, I was encouraged to: ?? Think broadly and beyond the expected route. ??Contribute to feedback on both current and new projects that impact millions of users. ??Absorb knowledge from talented designers. 2. ?? Professional Development One of the standout aspects of my time at Duolingo was the sheer level of collaboration. I go to meet some incredible designers (Taylor Baer, Tina Teng, Billy Leet, Aayush Jain, Kaila Lee Negrón, Youngryun Cho and so many others). Weekly design critiques were not just feedback sessions—they were learning opportunities. I was able to: ??Participate in thought-provoking discussions that sharpened my design thinking. ??Schedule 1:1s with designers like Colleen MacDonald and Jago P. to simply learn about what they're working on and hear about their experiences. The culture at Duolingo fosters an environment where every voice is heard, and that inclusivity made my learning curve steep, but incredibly rewarding. 3. ?? The Duolingo Experience Beyond the professional growth, Duolingo knows how to make work fun. Whether it was the adrenaline-pumping ping-pong matches (which I may or may not have dominated ??), the fantastic lunches, or my favorite clubs (???club volleyball and ???club movie night! ??)—I always felt like a part of the Duolingo family. The office culture is unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It’s been an incredible 10 weeks since I joined Duolingo, and the journey has been nothing short of amazing. I came in eager to embrace everything this company has to offer, and it has truly surpassed all my expectations. Thank you (again) to our hosts Bobert and Denni, my buddy Lokesh, and Leah Lockhart, Juan Carlos Ramos Vega, and TJ Hampton for making everyday as fun and exciting as it was. The warmth and inclusivity I’ve felt here go beyond feeling welcomed; it’s a genuine sense of belonging that makes this experience so special. ?To everyone who made this experience what it was—thank you. I’m leaving with a wealth of knowledge, a ton of new skills, and memories that will last a lifetime. ?? #Duolingo #Productdesign #Internship #DesignThinking #Collaboration #Growth
