Outdoor weed can emit 50x less CO2 than indoor weed Policymakers and cannabis producers need to pay attention, because cannabis production can be a lot more environmentally friendly and better. According to a recently published study on the impact of outdoor weed on the environment, outdoor weed can emit as much as 50 times less CO2 than indoor weed! Not only that, but special plant food with less nitrogen and more potassium, which would even provide 30% more THC! The new research was published in June in Agricultural Science and Technology. According to the researchers, the results are of great importance, given the rapid policy changes regarding cannabis in the world. Many countries are legalizing or decriminalizing cannabis, and the production of cannabis under artificial light has a major impact on the environment. It is also important for environmentally conscious cannabis consumers to know that cannabis can be produced in a much more environmentally friendly way. Most cannabis still grows indoors under artificial light. This not only costs a lot of electricity, but also has a major negative impact on greenhouse gas emissions, soil acidification and water quality.

We are incredibly proud to announce that our colleague, Ana M. Garcia Carril, is part of the IBMA ES committee as one representative for the Natural Substances Professional group. Ana is actively participating in all the activities organized by the association and was delighted to attend today’s IBMA Spain press conference at Fruit Attraction 2024. ? The press conference addressed the challenges facing the European biocontrol sector and the demands of the Spanish biocontrol sector. This event was particularly significant as the European Commission has decided to reintroduce biocontrol into the political debate to design the new European sustainability strategy, marking a pivotal moment for the European agri-food sector. ? According to Ana, the outcome of the press conference was highly positive and insightful: “The future looks bright for biocontrol with the Von der Leyen II Commission from 2024 to 2029. According to the Health and Animal Welfare Commissioner, they’re working on making production more sustainable, including organic farming and more biocontrol. They’re also leading efforts on the Biotech Act with DG SANTE and working under the VP’s direction.” ?
