In the space between #reforestation & permanent forest protection through acquisitions & easements there is a VAST opportunity to deliver #Forests4Climate by scaling up forest practices that have been uncommon, underfunded or even undiscovered. This is a superb example from our friends and partners The Nature Conservancy Science . I can testify to this one personally having saved some very large trees in my own neighborhood by taking down invasive vines that were on the way to killing the ??—relatively easy work that no one was assigned, organized or funded to do. These kinds of forest opportunities are everywhere, and we need to see them everywhere and act on them as a societal movement that fights for every tree like our ??, people and fellow creatures depend on it—because they do. Urban tree planting is a practical strategy for reducing the effects of climate change. It can also reduce the urban heat island (UHI), which occurs when a metropolitan area is significantly warmer than the surrounding rural areas. These heat islands are caused by a variety of factors, including human activity and urban development. If we plant more trees, we create a microclimate that benefits both our health and the environment.

Green infrastructure planning should be integral part of Goverment of India's inspiring plan to invest INR 143 trillion for the duration of 2024 to 2030 towards improved infrastructure on road, bridges, solarization, etc. Green bond, taxation should look beyond economic and social divident, and invest on improving our demographic divident around bio cultural diversity, resilience, consumer awareness, urban agriculture, urban aquifer protection and social forestry.

If we are to take advantage of the benefits of greening our public spaces we first need to value horticulture as a profession. We need to invest in training and research of those who will create and maintain our green spaces. Throughout my 40 years I have often seen the value and the hidden benefits of our sector ignored by the accountants and managers. We need to ensure the policy makers and government truly value horticulture.
