?? Rhode Island Passes Consumer PFAS Ban Act of 2024 ?? In a landmark move to protect public health and the environment, the Rhode Island General Assembly has passed the Consumer PFAS Ban Act of 2024. This groundbreaking legislation will phase out the use of harmful perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in a wide range of consumer products by January 1, 2029. Key Highlights: ?? Ban on PFAS in products such as cookware, cosmetics, textiles, and more by January 1, 2027. ?? Prohibition of PFAS in Class B firefighting foam starting January 1, 2025. ? Strict compliance and certification requirements for manufacturers. ? With increasing velocity, we see states, rather than the federal government, make the decision to ban ingredients and chemicals such as FPAS from manufactured goods. In 2018, Washington became the first state in the nation to restrict the use of firefighting foam that contains PFAS.??24 states have now enacted similar laws, and in 2023 alone, 195 bills were introduced across dozens of legislatures seeking to require that products be PFAS-free. All of this has led to a field of uncertainty around PFAS chemicals and other ingredients, like Red Dye 3, banned by California last autumn.??With this uncertainly, come chaos.
