Teaching Health and Safety is never fun, but I feel like I have done the impossible for NCFE L2: Uniformed Public Services at Scarborough TEC in the TEC Partnership. L2 Learners used the tables to write down what they remembered from last lesson, they then played spot the hazard. Learners used Think/Pair/Share to define Hazard and Risk. Minimal Tutor Led but Maximized Student Engagement.

M.E.N.U. Episode 1: Hazing ??Breaking News: Stop Campus Hazing Act Signed into Law!?? A landmark victory for student safety! President Biden recently signed the Stop Campus Hazing Act, a crucial step towards ending the dangerous and often deadly practice of hazing. Here's what this new law means: * Increased Transparency: Colleges and universities will now be required to publicly disclose hazing incidents through annual security reports. This vital information will shed light on the extent of hazing on campuses across the nation and empower students and families to make informed decisions. * Enhanced Prevention Efforts: The Act mandates that institutions develop comprehensive hazing prevention programs, including mandatory training for students, faculty, and staff. These programs will focus on education, awareness, and the development of a culture that unequivocally rejects hazing in all its forms. * Clearer Definitions and Stronger Enforcement: The law provides a clear definition of hazing, making it easier to identify and address these harmful behaviors. It also strengthens enforcement measures, holding institutions accountable for failing to prevent and respond to hazing incidents. This legislation marks a significant turning point in the fight against hazing. By increasing transparency, promoting prevention, and strengthening accountability, the Stop Campus Hazing Act will help create safer and healthier learning environments for all students. #StopHazing #StudentSafety #HigherEducation

New federal legislation to prevent hazing, shaped by insights from UMaine Professor of Higher Education Elizabeth Allan and her team, was passed by Congress, and has been sent to President Joe Biden for his signature. The Stop Campus Hazing Act requires colleges and universities to implement comprehensive hazing prevention programs and to publicly report incidents in their annual campus security reports, known as Clery Reports. It increases transparency for students and parents by requiring institutions to disclose their hazing prevention policies and any organizations found in violation of these policies. “This research-backed hazing prevention legislation will shift societal norms and structures that contribute to hazing, provide the public with more reliable information about hazing incidents, and support colleges and universities in preventing hazing,” said Allan, who founded the research group StopHazing. “It will also empower students to make informed decisions about their involvement in campus organizations. Clery statistics and transparency reports will help students and families make more informed decisions.” Read more on UMaine News: https://lnkd.in/gdvegrkH #UMaine #Maine #UMaineResearch

Inspectors talking to children during inspection... Inspections rely heavily on gathering evidence from children, a requirement outlined in both the School Inspection Handbook and ISI Inspection Handbook. Inspectors evaluate several areas including curriculum implementation, behaviour, personal development, and safety. While there are legal obligations to consider children's perspectives, participation in providing evidence is voluntary. If children opt out, inspectors must rely on alternative evidence, which can present challenges in making assessments. Further information can be found here: https://lnkd.in/eUAYydDm

Schools are one of the biggest contributors to false fire alarms in the UK. For example, between 2018 and 2021, there were over 1500 false fire alarms in British schools where the unwanted fire alarm signals (UFAS) were caused by the 'malicious activation of a fire call point/alarm'. False fire alarms are a particular problem within the school environment because they disrupt lessons unnecessarily and cause significant disturbance to students’ learning. More worryingly, they can also lead to attitudes of complacency regarding fire safety, which can result in delayed evacuation responses if a real fire breaks out - potentially costing lives. Our blog explores the what measures schools should take measures to reduce the number of unwanted fire alarm signals that occur on their premises https://ow.ly/ciH850SCJlx
