#ICYMI TMCF Chief Business & Legal Officer David K. Sheppard talks about the significance of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund HBCU Fly-In on The Daily Flash. The HBCU Fly-In is an opportunity for presidents and chancellors from HBCUs and PBIs, legislators, policymakers, and corporate leaders to come together to discuss the challenges and opportunities for HBCUs and PBIs, build on victories from last year, and learn more about where we believe we can make a significant contribution to the development of federal policy that impacts our institutions. https://lnkd.in/dEaQjBAt.

I’m not being a hater. Let’s have a serious discussion: Why does any Institution of Higher Education feel that having alums who are delegates to a Political Convention is newsworthy? THERE IS NO PURPOSE! That university is trying to engage in DEMOCRAT PARTY GOTV efforts. Their federal funding should be CUT! There are probably 50 Carolina alums who are delegates. A&T has several delegates and you don’t see their University promoting such a common occurrence. I encourage the Administration at NCCU to stay out of politics and focus on fundraising (which last I read, was quite pathetic). Get some of your alums to stop buying BMWs and give you $100 and perhaps we wouldn’t have to utilize so much of our tax dollars on landscaping over in Durham. Black Institutions must stop playing SMALL BALL. This type of BUSHLEAGUE activity is why Blacks as myself, who took Honors and AP courses and excelled DO NOT EVEN APPLY TO THESE SCHOOLS. #GlorifiedHighSchoolers #PoliticallyCHEAPpeople ??
#NCCUCommunity | NCCU rising senior Devin Freeman and alumnus Durham Mayor Leo Williams have been selected as delegates for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Freeman and Williams are first-time delegates. | #WherePurposeTakesFlight #EaglePride #NCCUAlumni #NCCU25 | READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/ejM-Ep9z

That’s a wrap for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 53rd Legislative Conference. Whenever you think you’ve seen the highest heights, it’s time to leave your environment. What you’ll find is there’s always another level. Entering into this space where policy is being designed, systems are being reimagined, and lives of Americans are being changed is an example of that other level. There’s tons of work to do in Dallas, so it was important to learn how the people at the highest level are pioneering change so that I can bring it back. This next phase will be historic. #ALC53 #CBCF #CongressionalBlackCaucus

Advocating for freedom of association is crucial, especially for organizations like Greek life, which often provide valuable opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and community service on college campuses. Greek organizations not only offer a sense of belonging and camaraderie but also foster leadership skills, philanthropic endeavors, and academic support systems. These groups contribute positively to campus culture by promoting inclusivity, diversity, and a strong sense of community. By participating in initiatives like the First Amendment Institute, members of organizations like Tri Delta gain a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities as advocates for their organizations and the broader community. This knowledge empowers them to effectively engage in dialogue, promote positive change, and uphold the values of freedom and association. Ultimately, recognizing the value of Greek life and supporting initiatives that empower its members to advocate for their rights ensures that these organizations continue to enrich campus life and contribute positively to society.
Last week, Tri Delta sent three collegiate members, Libby Lester, Texas, Katarina Betris, Jacksonville, and Alexandra Hofmaister, Oregon State, to the First Amendment Institute (FAI) to learn how to advocate for freedom of association on their campuses. Alexandra shared, "I loved my experience and the opportunity to learn more about the impact of our voices on campus, especially as leaders of powerful organizations such as Greek life. My greatest takeaways from this conference were about fair application and ensuring that all actions you take and precedents you make are applied equally within our chapters and on our campuses."
