?? What’s in a word? A lot, actually. One of the challenges of the #reparations movement today is a lack of understanding of what reparations truly means—its required combination of restitution and repair. ?? Essential to achieving reparations for Black people in the US is building a culture of repair. Liberation Ventures offers one way of thinking about racial repair with a framework that consists of an ongoing, iterative cycle of reckoning, acknowledgment, accountability, and redress. ?? Raising the issue of repair does not imply that the Black community is broken or defined by victimhood. Instead, what is in need of repair are the policies, #systems, and culture that created and sustained the harm and inequity reparations address. All people, regardless of race, stand to benefit and have a role to play.

At #BlackRootsAlliance, our mission is the liberation of all Black people. We organize around five key areas: #safety, #economicsecurity, #healthandwholeness, #education #justiceanddemocracyengagement. This #Juneteenth, we want to bring awareness to a crucial aspect of our journey towards justice—#reparations for Black people. Since the end of slavery, conversations about reparations have been ongoing. We believe there must be multiple paths to reparations because our experiences and needs are diverse. Reparations are about making amends for the atrocities inflicted on oppressed communities. They are a form of apology and a step towards repairing the deep-rooted damages caused by systemic racism and oppression. These reparations should address structural inequities and provide a plan for a more just future. We want to hear from you! What's your biggest money issue?
