Knowledge is the cornerstone of any successful organization, yet in F&B, we often see regulations and foundational training overlooked. It is vital that we place individuals in key positions who possess the experience and insight to nurture the next generation. Without a solid base of knowledge, the ability to lead, teach, or inspire is greatly diminished. While training programs can impart skills, they must be delivered by those with genuine industry experience. Professionals with decades of hands-on expertise understand the nuances of the role and can effectively combine practical knowledge with structured training to ensure meaningful results. Unfortunately, many trainers in hotels and even educational institutions lack this real-world experience. It’s not uncommon to see individuals on platforms like LinkedIn promoting their training efforts, yet a closer look at their profiles reveals little to no direct industry exposure. While this isn’t universally true, it is a significant concern that must be addressed. To prepare future leaders in the hospitality industry, trainers should first invest time working directly in operations, gaining practical knowledge and firsthand understanding of the challenges and expectations within the field. Only then can they effectively guide and develop the next generation, ensuring a stronger future for our industry.
