Technician Spotlight! Gordon M. 1. How did you get started in the industry? I was born into the industry as my dad is a mechanic. I have been doing this my entire life. 2. What do you like about MF or your shop? I like the team effort which is put into everything. The management cares about the employees and it feels like a company/team effort where everyone works together. 3. What advice do you have for a new employee? Be patient while learning the new systems, standards, and procedures to produce a really great repair. Be open to feedback and know that learning this industry takes time and effort. You become much more effective by listening, learning, maintaining an open-mind, and being open to feedback. 4. What do you wish others knew about what it’s like to be a technician? I wish people were more patient because doing a repair right the first time may take time. 5. What are your future goals? I plan on taking any training courses we offer and supporting the training of new technicians. I would love to build armor-proof vehicles.

Employee spotlight, please meet: Kenna? Position: Quality Control Technician, hired 10/10/2022? ? What do you like best about CN and why?? My favorite thing beyond all else is the positive atmosphere and teamwork we strive for every single day. I always look forward to seeing my co-workers when clocking in knowing we will be working together for a brighter future. What is an interesting ingredient you get to work with at CN and why is it interesting?? Its always interesting to work with something Like turmeric. It’s a PH changing properties allow it to go from yellow to bright red when exposed to things like lemons and dishwashing soap. It also has been used in medicine for over 4000 years! What is a fun fact about you?? I have a pet snake ?Monty Python. He’s a sweet little ball python that loves to climb all over his enclosure. While some people are scared of snakes (they can be spooky), I find them fascinating and adorable critters! Is there a CN value you want to discuss:? Integrity, Collaboration, Humbleness, Perseverance, Agility?? Collaboration is king when it comes to CN. Without the teams working together, we wouldn’t be able to keep moving forward and overcome the obstacles that lay ahead.?

Quality work stems from ownership and passion. As technicians, it's crucial to embrace individual responsibility, coupled with a genuine passion for our craft. With the right skills and mindset, we're driven to excel in every task, delivering top-notch results with minimal supervision. Let's cultivate a culture where excellence is innate, and taking ownership is second nature. By taking ownership and Individual responsibilities in our work, we do not want to: 1. Do Less quality work 2. Use shortcuts 3. Work unsafe 5. Cause damages on the machines we work with 5. Work in unsafe work environment #TechnicianLife #QualityWork #Passion"

Does this technician look happy? He absolutely dont. The every day stress that a technician has to be addressed. Or you will have a revolving door in your dealership. But, let's take a look at the situation. Time is money. And technicians pay a lot of money for tools which creates more stress. They aren't getting a return on their investment. That combined with the every day stress, and the body aches makes it look like a tough situation for them, and the Service Manager. Here is my tip of the day. It worked great for me. The tech who can perform the repair the quickest needs that job. And every one of those jobs. Too many cars? Rank the technicians on a scale. If the quickest tech isn't available, work the list from the top down. Before you know it, you have a shop full of producing technicians. Then everyone is happy.

Why do we continue to talk about technician shortages in class 8 industry when we’ve already determined root cause. We seem to not want to lead the way in real change but continue to complain about it. To truly make a difference we need to look at the industry as a whole and come together to improve pay, training, developmental plans etc.. The industry has so much to offer if structured correctly. Technicians need to be looked at as part of the solution not the problem. Prior to moving into leadership roles I was a technician and never really appreciated, felt more of the clean up crew lol. We Need technicians to support numerous products in our industry. What are your thoughts? Am I the only one feeling this way?
