Thank you VDMA Additive Manufacturing for having our parts at your booth! We truly believe that #sustainability will be extremely relevant for the future of #additivemanufacturing. Fraunhofer ILT Additive Manufacturing at Fraunhofer ILT
VDMA Additive Manufacturing invites you to the Showcase Area (12.0 Stand B01) at Formnext - Where ideas take shape in Frankfurt (19.-22.10.2024): #additivemanufacturing as an enabler for challenges in three fields of technology. The Fraunhofer ILT will be presenting a sustainability assessment of the PBF-LB/M process. A comparison of the ecological footprint of a conventional holder geometry and a topology-optimized holder made of AlSi10Mg using the PBF-LB/M process will be on display at our stand. Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB/M) offers possibilities for sustainable manufacturing through the recycling of powder materials or the production of lightweight and topology-optimized components. To evaluate the sustainability or ecological footprint, a life cycle analysis (LCA) is carried out and a virtual model of the PBF-LB/M process is developed. For the selected application, topology optimization was used on a component from the aerospace industry in order to reduce the component volume in a targeted manner. Two variants of the component were built on a commercial LPBF system and the primary energy data recorded. An LCA model was developed to evaluate the impact of topology optimization on the ecological footprint. The results show that the ecological footprint can be reduced by applying topology optimization. ?Fraunhofer ILT, Aachen #additivefertigung #3dprinting #3ddruck
