Embrace the Challenge ?? Step up as a school leader AGAINST disparities and racism. ???? As school leaders, we must acknowledge that confronting disparities and racism head-on is not an easy feat. It requires courage, resilience, and commitment. Start by encouraging dialogue about diversity, equity, and inclusion, and having honest conversations within the school community. Undoubtedly, challenges will arise. Whether it's resistance to change, conflicting opinions, or systemic barriers, face these challenges head-on. Remember, change is a gradual process. Celebrate small victories, learn from setbacks, and stay committed to your vision of a school that stands against disparities and racism. By stepping up as a leader, you inspire others to educate, advocate, and strengthen your commitment towards a more just and inclusive educational experience. Wayne Hoy and Megan Tschannen-Moran, leading experts in educational trust, define trust as “one party’s willingness to be vulnerable ??to another based on the confidence that the other is benevolent ??, reliable ??, competent ??, honest ??, and open ???.” This definition of trust emphasizes the interdependence of individuals and groups within schools. They argues that trust is essential for accomplishing school goals and establishing a positive school climate. Trustworthy leadership significantly influences school effectiveness, and leaders who demonstrate the five facets of trust can more easily develop trust with faculty. Whether you are new to leadership or have a lot of experience, TRUST IS FOUNDATIONAL. I wrote this one to serve as schools in creating discussions about trust in a digestiable way. Consider using this and a text protocol from School Reform Initiative to have some discussions. I hope it works well for my friend Todd as he leads his new team this year. ????
