Delighted to see that my question about the need for clarity about the The Scottish Government’s envisaged purpose of Scotland’s third sector, and the need for a national conversation to develop a collective vision on it, made it into the final report of The Scottish Parliament Social Justice and Social Security Committee on “Pre-Budget Scrutiny 2025-26: Third sector funding principles” ‘“Professor Tobias Jung, said there needs to be clarity about the purpose of the third sector. He questioned whether it is "merely about public service delivery in propping up the public sector and filling the gaps that the Government cannot fill, or is it about innovation, alternative solutions, developing communities and providing advocacy?" He considered that a view could be developed collectively through a national conversation— “We need to make the move from alleviating existing circumstances to being strategic in addressing the underlying issues. Some of the questions that we have here are about dealing with second-order issues, without having the overarching vision in place first of all.“‘ https://lnkd.in/e4KCmNGj

We can’t just sit back and hope that President Trump fixes everything. We the People need to do our part. And that means fighting even harder for a convention of the states to ensure that meaningful reforms are permanent, and can’t just be changed by the next administration. We have already seen what it looked like when Joe Biden took over and reversed much of the good that President Trump had done during his tenure. Additionally, there are things a President just can’t do that still absolutely need to be done. For example, a President can’t impose term limits on Congress. Nor can he limit the Supreme Court to nine Justices, as we need to do by constitutional amendment to prevent leftists from adding Justices and packing the Court in the future. He also can’t “permanently” do away with federal government authority over health care, education, energy, agriculture, and a whole host of other things the feds were never supposed to be involved in. If we want permanent, structural change…we need a convention of the states. And now’s the time. When the ideas of limited government and federalism are winning, that’s the time to press forward with the momentum. Now is that time. So take a quick breath, celebrate for an evening or so, and then redouble your efforts in the fight with Convention of States. Give $47 today and redouble the efforts of We the People:

Most, if not all, public sector and not for profit organisations operate on tight budgets and limited resources, therefore the topic of paying Chairs, Non-Executive Directors and Trustees has often been contentious. In this article Paul Aristides, Partner in our Further Education and Skills Practice, and Helene Usherwood, Partner and AQ Board Practice lead, explore why some organisations avoid the issue, and why others may see the benefits: https://lnkd.in/e8qAA5cC

Northen Ireland, the United Kingdom, events of Saturday, February 3rd 2024 and reminiscences of my visit to Belfast in 2009- If indeed the events of yesterday, bring opportunities for the further development of Northern Ireland, I shall be happy. A Nations Young- A Nations Future Politics, Economics, Governance et all, have an impact on the nations young, a nations future, and how that future can be shaped. Peace and stability in a nation is a fundamental not simply for local, foreign direct or portfolio investment, trade and tourism, but a nations ability to retain its young and to stem the brain drain. Leveraging A new Future for the Next Generation- It is in this context that I shared my thoughts in an article I captioned "Leveraging A New Future for the Next Generation" published in 2009, and in which I wrote about Northern Ireland as follows- "Post-conflict Belfast, in Northern Ireland-..in the course of enjoying the abundant beauty and tranquillity of Inverness in the mountain highlands of Scotland, I envisioned what Nuwara Eliya (in my home country, Sri Lanka) could well have been – if we were a conflict free nation attracting annual new investments for tourism. Then I travelled to Belfast in Northern Ireland and was encouraged by the significant new investment and new thinking that is readily apparent there" "Yes of course, 10 years after the Good Friday Agreement, the conflict is not completely over. But Northern Ireland has in relative terms become a peaceful and stable destination for tourism, investment and living. The deal is yet considered a volatile one, but the region seems well on its way to recovery. While the agreement was signed in 1998, it took until 2005 for the IRA to finally disarm for good" "The DUP, by then the biggest Unionist party, could only be convinced of the legitimacy of the ceasefire when Sinn Fein took the vital step of recognising the authority of the Police Service of Northern Ireland in 2007. Ian Paisley had then astonished many by agreeing to form a government with his old enemies, serving alongside Sinn Fein’s Deputy Leader Martin Mc Guinness. The most extreme sides from the two communities have successfully formed a power-sharing government. Although there are undoubtedly still ongoing tensions between the Protestants and Catholics, the fact that the agreement has held proves that there is little appetite in the province for returning to the bad old days of terrorism and violence which resulted in the deaths of over 3,000 people in the 30 years" "I went to many places where the scars of the conflict were yet visible-including the walls separating the two factions (along Falls Street for example), which still remain. I wondered why. Speaking to a cross section of people, I began to realise that this of course could be interpreted in many ways."
