Today, I came across a story that left me absolutely bewildered! The sitting area at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 has been cordoned off for months, all because of a few bad actors causing disturbances. And now, everyone suffers - the elderly, the residents waiting for their rides, and people who simply want to use a public space as it was meant to be used. Let’s be real - does barricading a shared space solve anything? Shouldn't targeted enforcement be the answer? Why must the majority pay the price for a small group’s actions? Instead of closing off our communal spaces, why not focus on real solutions - community policing, resident-led activities, or educational initiatives? Slapping on restrictions is the easy way out. Let’s demand more from our local councils! ?? ? This isn't just about a void deck. It’s about how we, as a community, choose to engage with each other and whether our leaders will start prioritizing solutions that include us, not exclude us. What kind of society are we building if we just keep shutting each other out? Is this the outcome of our education and training systems? ?? For Vision Zero to succeed in eliminating traffic fatalities, collaboration is crucial among residents, legislators, planners, and community leaders. This year's plenary sessions will bring members from important parties together to discuss local and state legislative efforts to make our streets safer. Our morning plenary will dive into two traffic calming projects, discuss the challenges, the vision and how Philadelphia can the projects scale up to improve safety all across the city. The City of Melville has a long history of not caring about residents’ wellbeing and its ongoing appaing performance of enforcing compliance with the many laws for which it has primary jurisdiction on behalf of the State, such as health, dealing with rats, fire protection. This is yet another example! The new CEO, Ms Gail Bowman, has inherited an organisational mess worse than this squalid Mt Pleasant property, all thanks to her past 2 predecessors. So much needs to change. Ms Bowman stated the City is in advanced stages of investigating the matter, however Council needs to act to deal with the City’s failure to show concern for the property owners, and failure to protect residents from the quite obvious health, vermin and fire risks. The City has known about this uninhabital house, health and fire risks for a very long time. Council needs to grill the CEO and demand answers as to why this serious issue was not addressed years ago. We doubt the City would have done anything had it not been for a few passionate and persistent community members. Promoting a Holistic Approach to Public Safety - The West North Avenue Development Authority and its grant recipient-partner, Frontline Management Services, LLC - Baltimore, Black Knight LLC, and the P.E.A.C.E. team, met today to encourage a comprehensive strategy for public safety. The pilot project is focused on the 3100–3200 blocks of West North Avenue (including two blocks to the south and north of both locations) and the areas around West North Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue. Our shared goal of public safety drives us to implement a comprehensive set of accountability and prevention tactics. These tactics aim to change behavior while addressing the factors contributing to crime. We appreciate the Baltimore City Police Department, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Coppin State University Police Department, and other organizations for their commitment to meeting the goals and needs of the communities we serve. #publicsafety #communityempowerment #crimeprevention #cleanandgreen
