Great to see this out and where the Place Programme is headed in Phase 2! The work we do at the AHRC Place Programme responds to the high priority of ‘place’ within the UK and global policy landscapes, and the cross-sectoral initiatives focused on placemaking and redistributing resources to places most in need. Our work Phase One of the AHRC Place Programme (2021-2023) culminated in a?report?which argued for a people-centred, place-led approach that holds the lived, felt, geographic and economic dimensions of place together to ensure that policies and practices are developed in equitable partnerships with communities and professionals. ? Phase Two of the programme runs until 2027 and a key objective is to test how the people-centred, place-led principles set out in the report can be embedded through organisational systems and policy at different scales, sectors, and governments in all four nations of the United Kingdom. Our goal is to work with partners from inside and outside academia to bridge the evidence, systems and policy gaps that influence people-centred approaches to place-based work. ? Exciting News Alert! ULI Orange County/Inland Empire District Council snagged the Top Award for "Best Program for Professional Development and Member Engagement" with their Builders Got Talent event! UrbanPlan’s Got Talent, an inaugural fundraiser for the UrbanPlan program, was an incredible showcase of teamwork and innovation. Teams from four leading builders in Orange County immersed themselves in the UrbanPlan program over five weeks, crafting detailed proposals with guidance from seasoned volunteers. The competition reached its climax on June 8, 2023, as teams presented their proposals to a city council panel, spiced up with lively networking, dinner, and drinks. The event even had a People’s Choice award, with teams pulling out all the stops with creative marketing strategies - think buttons, flyers, and yes, even tequila shots! The Urban Cowboys team from Rancho Mission Viejo with JZMK’s Andrew Watkins swept the first annual Builders Got Talent: UrbanPlan Edition! UrbanPlan’s Got Talent wasn't just a night of fun and competition - it was a testament to the growth and vitality of the UrbanPlan program. Known as the “Choice of Champions,” Clermont has a reputation as a training ground for athletes, from high school athletes and regional record-breakers to Olympians; among those who have lived or trained here are Shane Greene, an MLB pitcher for the Atlanta Braves who was named an All Star in 2019; Nina Kraft, the oldest professional female Ironman winner; and Noah Lyles, an Olympic Gold Medalist and world record-holding sprinter. But beyond its ample sporting facilities, Clermont is full of pristine lakes, parks and trails. In 2018, it was designated as a Trail Town by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Florida Greenways and Trails System and has been nationally certified as a runner-friendly and bicycle-friendly community. Don’t miss the picturesque 13-mile South Lake Trail, with hills, lakes and panoramic vistas. It’s part of the under-construction Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail, which, when completed, will stretch from the east to west coasts of Florida, from Titusville to St. Petersburg. Clermont was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916, when its main industry was citrus production (that industry thrived until the 1960s). Today, it is the largest city in Lake County, one of the fastest growing counties in Florida. Its historic downtown is the heartbeat of the city, supported by Clermont Main Street, a passionate group of businesses and volunteers working to revitalize the area through a mix of public funding, grants, sponsorships and community events.
