All the Neurons are at their resting state which is -70 v. You need a trigger ( lots of them) to help a Neuron open Sodium Gates and let Sodium enter inside the cell. This takes the charge to -50 v which is also known as threshold. Once a Neuron has reached threshold of -50 v, it becomes a lot easier to increase the charge to +50/+70 v where the Neuron is able to attach the transmitters like Serotonin etc to the cell membrane of the post synaptic Neuron. That's when everything including Cognition etc happens. Dr.R.Clay.Reid at prestigious Allen Institute for Brain Science has an exciting news for Neuroscientists all over the work, " It is possible to transfer a protein into a Neuron and then ensure guaranteed FIRING by using Photons (Light)" This is going to be a revolutionary BREAKTHROUGH!

A student recently asked me if I had a favorite #neuroscience paper. While there are many influential studies I could list, this one from Tiago Branco's group is probably my favorite (link below). I love it because the authors elegantly show how computations within a simple neural circuit rapidly control an evolutionarily conserved defensive behavior in mice (escape from an aerial predator). Evans et al.'s findings guide my lab's studies of #neurofibromatosis, because we've found that mice modeling #NF1 and other #Rasopathy syndromes have exaggerated responses to looming discs that mimic predator approach from above. We think these behaviors could mimic sensory hypersensitivity experienced by some NF patients with autism and may involve evolutionarily old brain systems that control emotional responses to sensory information. New research reveals that traditional resting-state fMRI (rsfMRI) may overlook certain neural activities, offering a fresh perspective on how the brain's regions coordinate during rest. Researchers compared blood flow data from rsfMRI with direct neural recordings, discovering that some brain activities, termed “invisible signals,” don’t align with blood flow changes. This challenges the conventional view that rsfMRI fully captures brain activity and suggests that unseen signals may play a larger role in resting-state networks. Overall , this study proposes that these findings may apply to human brains, potentially reshaping brain imaging interpretation. Which will help lead to more precise understanding of brain networks.
