Did you know about the UK’s Co-operative Party. MPs convinced of the power of cooperative to transform the lives of people through a for-purpose business model where citizens are the owners, have historically stood as both cooperative party and Labour candidates. The UK election has returned a record number of these MPs. Together with Keir Starmer’s pledge to double the size of the cooperative and mutual economy, the future is bright to put this transformative business structure at the center of economic renewal, and fairer markets for people living in the United Kingdom.
Co-operative Party hails the appointment of 21 peers and MPs to Keir Starmer's frontbenches, with cabinet posts for Steve Reed, Lucy Powell MP (Manchester Central), Anneliese Dodds MP, Jonathan Reynolds MP and Baroness Smith

?????????????? Perfect timing. The Scottish Police, in their finest tartan of determination, have chosen this moment, the eve of hosting the historic 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, to express their discontent. “A withdrawal of goodwill,” they say, starting at 5pm tomorrow, in a bold stand against underappreciation. It's a move that, while certainly striking in its timing, underscores the depth of their grievances. Here we stand, about to host a global congregation of law enforcement, and instead, we're witnessing a display of solidarity that could only come from a group pushed to the brink. This isn't just about a pay dispute; it's a declaration. A declaration that says, "We are the backbone of your safety, your peace, your community's well-being, and yet, we feel unvalued." It's a poignant moment, not just for Scotland, but for law enforcement worldwide. Imagine the scenes next week: delegates from around the world, expecting discussions on global crime trends, only to find themselves amidst a silent protest that speaks volumes. It's not just a disruption; it's a message. A reminder that behind every badge, every uniform, there's a person who deserves respect, recognition, and fair compensation for the risks they take daily. This action, though inconveniently timed, serves as a beacon. It highlights the often overlooked struggles of those in service. It's a call for dialogue, for understanding, for change. And while it might paint a less than perfect picture for our global guests, it paints a clear one for the Scottish government and the world: "Support your police, or prepare for the consequences of their absence." Here's to hoping this moment not only resolves the immediate concerns of Scotland's brave officers but also sparks a broader conversation on the value we place on those who keep our societies, our children, safe. Let's raise a glass, not just to the assembly, but to the men and women in blue, who, despite the odds, stand firm in their quest for justice, not just for the public, but for themselves. A really interesting analysis on the newly published Labour manifesto from a crime, justice and public safety perspective. Definitely worth a read!
Continuing our series of manifesto reviews, today we are publishing our analysis of the Labour Party manifesto, which was released yesterday. Read our manifesto reviews by clicking on the party logo on website: https://lnkd.in/eT7RnZvD With all major parties announcing their key pledges on law and order, our in-house think tank Crest Insights is taking a closer look. Our manifesto analysis will outline the stark challenges facing the criminal justice system, measure how much each party’s commitments match up against these challenges, and suggest what is missing. All of this work follows the independent and non-party approach which Crest Insights and the rest of Crest Advisory applies to all its work - it’s led by evidence, not agendas and draws on research we’ve done in the past and work for police forces, Mayors, PCC and other clients. In case you missed it, you can also find our Conservative Party Manifesto review on our website. We’ll be doing exactly the same for the Liberal Democrats, Reform UK, the Green Party, Plaid Cymru and the SNP next week.

Fixing the broken H-1B program isn’t about politics. It’s not about whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or independent. It’s about basic decency. And it’s an opportunity we must seize at this moment to build a bipartisan coalition to deliver results for the public. Read Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien on why H-1B is wrong for American workers: https://lnkd.in/eddM-vkz

We must improve our performance reporting “Imagine the commentary on an All Blacks game telling you which side had the most possession, the number of tackles made, and the amount of extra time – but not the score or which team won.” John Ryan paints this picture as a metaphor for the way in which the public sector reports on its performance. Current performance reporting is inadequate. It usually follows the rules but doesn’t give Parliament and the public what they want to know. This is detrimental to public trust. The Labour government looks and sounds busy, but someone else is doing all the hard work, says Fleet Street Fox. Winning means making the country work differently. It's a heady moment, winning. Overcoming every obstacle, negotiating each pitfall, your knowledge, talent or experience being the thing that sets you apart and gets you the shiny hat, the big chair, or the gold medal. The trouble is that politics is not a race, or a sport, or an end. It's a slog through an unforgiving swamp that is as infinite in span and viciousness as the human soul, and twice as depressing. But because we're pretty silly, as a species, the win seems all-important. Until you cross the finish line, and another line appears, your competitors jump on your back, your ships sink, and it turns out what you thought was 3D chess is more like cleaning up a dirty protest in an asylum, after a curry buffet and with your bare hands. Keir Starmer and his team haven't quite realised that yet. They've seen there's a mess, they know who's to blame, they've got some big ideas about Great British Buckets and Private Investment Mops, but they will not hit the point of realistic, glasses-off-and-head-in-hands despair for, ooh, about six months, if that. Elation, ego, and good intentions are keeping their heads in the clouds, while a slick PR machine is running a long-scheduled 'grid' of announcements that is ushering them through prisons, defence, energy, education, employment... all while the ministers are yet to get a government phone, their special advisors are yet to sign contracts, and the civil servants have no real idea which department is doing what or where they ought to sit. https://lnkd.in/er2gsUug
