I just don't understand how this makes much sense... I get that Haslam's want to have Jimmy's version of Jerry's World but the location and approach make no sense. I don't see how the economics will pencil out. I don't understand how building something on a metaphorical island that competes with everything actually in the city center makes sense. The county owns the Convention Center yet will likely end up funding this project that will totally aim to take events and business away from the publicly owned Downtown Convention Center and Hilton. Who is going to stay at a $400 a night hotel next to a stadium and airport, with scenic views of....Brookpark? Who is going to pay $2,500 a month to live next to a Stadium and Airport with scenic views of... you guessed it, Brookpark? Who is going to go out to the bars and restaurants when there isn't an event at the stadium? Bottle service and $15 beers in Brookpark? How are these bars and restaurants going to stay in business paying what have to be absurd rents to support the $3.5B development? The city and county won't pay us 40% of the cost of building a new office or warehouse, we shouldn't do it for the countries wealthiest people. Public financing of sports stadiums are some of the worst government subsidies we seem to proudly tolerate. My unpopular opinion, is if we are to fund anything beyond renovations to the current stadium, the only location that makes sense and is a net positive is by the Post Office. What do you get? - You free up access to the lakefront to do literally anything. -You develop an area that is somewhat of a deadzone that maintains solid access to the highways -You have the opportunity to connect the stadium to public transit via rail (a MUST) - You keep the stadium district relatively compact and allow for events that can utilize multiple facilities. - You keep the tourists in the city center which provides a much better experience for everyone Chris Ronayne Justin M. Is Padel likely to be the next major sport conversion of U.S. Big Box space? And I did that yearly shopping recently. When I stepped into the retail store, I found this lovely installation of the history and heritage of the brand with key milestones pointed out.... ?? As someone who's been buying from Jockey for quite a few years, I had fun going through their history in such an aesthetic way.
