A decade after The White House announcement, our institutes' commitment to catalyze technology advancement and cultivate a highly skilled workforce within the U.S. #manufacturing sector remains steadfast. Together with our partners from industry, academia, and the federal government, we continue to strengthen the impact of the Manufacturing USA institutes nationwide. Our collective efforts have enhanced U.S. manufacturing #competitiveness and resilience through R&D, #workforcedevelopment, and cross-sector collaborations. Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce and Akash Systems have signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms (PMT) to provide up to $18.2 million in proposed direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. The proposed investment would support the construction of a 40,000 square foot cleanroom space within an existing building to transform it into a facility for semiconductor manufacturing. This proposed CHIPS funding, together with funding from Akash, venture capital firms, and other private investors, would support a $121 million investment and enable the company to leverage its intellectual property and experience of developing semiconductor technologies that serve important end markets, such as communications and the defense industrial base, while also creating over 400 direct manufacturing and construction jobs. On Monday, February 26, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo joined the Renewing American Innovation Project at CSIS for a major policy address on how the CHIPS Act implementation is going. After announcing the administration’s new policy of prioritizing projects that would be implemented by 2030, Secretary Raimondo shared an update and US manufacturing capacity. “By the end of this decade, by 2030, the United States of America will be the only country in the world where new chip architectures can be invented in our new research labs, including those funded by the NSTC. They’ll be designed in the United States for every end-use application you can think of. Manufactured at scale in the United States by well-paid American workers. And packaged with the most advanced technology in the world.
