After two years of hard work, I am thrilled to share that our article on “A 2-stage model of heterogenous treatment effects for brain atrophy in multiple sclerosis utilizing the MS PATHS research network” is now published in Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders. This is a collaboration project across 5 MS centers that developed a proof of concept in using a 2-stage HTE model in a real-world MS population to #predict individual responses to different classes of DMT based on baseline patient characteristics. This is one step closer in using #precisionmedicine to #personalize #MScare. Importance of deriving #RWE in guiding MS DMT decision-making! https://lnkd.in/ePKr2z6e Former Army Surgeon General MG Patricia (Patty) Horoho came up with the health promotion program for our Servicemembers called the Performance Triad. The program focused on eating healthy, getting adequate sleep, and exercising routinely. Louisa Nicola, an Australian-born neurophysiologist in this video shares 3 major tips of avoiding Alzheimer's disease: 1) Sleep is a critical factor in preventing disease 2) The impact of a sedentary lifestyle on increasing your risk for Alzheimer’s disease 3) That nutrition, especially Omega3 fatty acids plays an important role in prevention as well. The advice sounds familiar right? Looks like the Army TSG (The Surgeon General) was correct! Currently, 55 Million individuals suffer with Alzheimer's and by 2050, the number of individuals getting the disease will grow three fold. Only about 3% of Alzheimer's disease is due to genetics. This means nearly 97% of the cases are preventable. Please continue to follow me as I continue to share tips on how to stay healthy as you age.

In a recent study published in BMJ Open, Dr. Nekane Romero-Garcia and colleagues explore the effects of hyperoxaemia on patients with acute brain injury (ABI). This systematic review and meta-analysis protocol aims to analyze whether high oxygen levels (hyperoxaemia) are linked to increased mortality and poor neurological outcomes in hospitalized adults with ABI. Hyperoxaemia is a subject particularly close to my heart due to its crucial implications in neurocritical care, and it was also the focus of my doctoral thesis. The significance of this research lies in the fact that previous studies have been inconclusive, often due to varying definitions of hyperoxaemia and differing study designs. This protocol could serve as a foundation for exciting future research in the field. #NeurocriticalCare #AcuteBrainInjury #Hyperoxaemia #SystematicReview #HealthcareResearch #PatientOutcomes #CriticalCareResearch #Hyperoxia

Thanks for sharing, Chris. It is fascinating to see how Xenon MRI can be applied beyond the lungs to image the brain! It’s a reminder that the elements of nature, when explored with curiosity and purpose, can make an impact. I have always been captivated by the power of chemistry and the usefulness of science in everyday life. Throughout history, scientists have discovered elements and phenomena that, when applied to the human body, have transformed health care. Xenon is one such element that exemplifies this journey from discovery to impact. Hyperpolarized Xenon MRI is redefining how we see and understand lung function. By capturing regional, functional maps of the lungs, this technology offers insights that were previously unattainable. What inspires me most is how a single element, when paired with cutting-edge imaging science, can enhance patient care meaningfully, from early detection to personalized treatment pathways. #XenonMRI #HealthcareInnovation #LongCOVID #LungHealth
CEO and Board Director at Polarean | Revolutionizing Pulmonary Medicine through Direct MRI Visualization of Lung Function
Have you ever had brain fog post-COVID? I have!?It is brutal. Last December, after dealing with the fever and stuffy nose for a couple of days, the lingering brain fog was the hardest symptom to recover from. It’s a reminder of how COVID affects not just the lungs but multiple organ systems, including the brain. That’s why the recent research from Keegan Staab , Dr. Sean Fain, and the University of Iowa research team, presented at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) last week, is so important. Using the Polarean #XenonMRI platform, their study explored the connection between lung function and brain health in individuals with Long COVID. The findings showed that lung gas exchange is linked to cognitive function, brain volume, and brain perfusion. This highlights the importance of taking a multi-organ (Brain-Heart-Lung) approach to understanding complex diseases and advancing tools like Xenon MRI to uncover critical insights. It was a privilege to meet with Dr. Fain/Keegan and discuss how this technology can drive meaningful change for future research. Don’t get COVID this holiday season—protect your health and the health of those around you!
