I'm excited to see professional Associations prioritizing comprehensive well-being initiatives to strengthen design-based campus initiatives and hold back the co-opting of wellness, mental health, and community well-being from modern day snake oil salesmen. But well-being in higher education deserves so much more than a week, and if we've learned anything from mired campaigns (e.g., National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week), the result of isolating work that needs to be iterative, collective, and year-long to a single timeframe has unintentional consequences which ultimately minimize (or worse! - reverse!) progress.
Get ready for "Well-being in Higher Education Week" happening February 26 - March 1, 2024! Join us and over 20 higher education associations in a thought-provoking dialogue on well-being. ??? Registration details and session schedules will be available in late January. Stay tuned for more information! ?? All sessions are open to everyone, and many will be recorded for your convenience. Lower Saxony – Scotland Joint Forum 2024: The Jubilee Edition DAY II: WORKSHOPS Today we have the pleasure to introduce another workshop that will take place on the second day of the Joint Forum: “Who attends university, who doesn’t, and what should we do about it? Social mobility and patterns of higher education representation in Scotland and Lower Saxony”. This workshop will be held by Dr Stephanie Mckendry and Kelly Stewart from University of Strathclyde, who will explore social mobility and access to higher education within Scotland and Lower Saxony, with a particular focus on social class. Taking a comparative approach, participants will be asked to consider the challenges and successes in widening access to higher education. The discourse will revolve around patterns of representation within higher education, barriers to participation, government policy on participation/inequalities in higher education and effective practice in supporting access to higher education, as well as the ways in which comparative approaches can stimulate understanding and the sharing of good practice. More details about the project can be found at: https://joint-forum.org/. To ensure your place at the 2024 Joint Forum, please register via: https://lnkd.in/eWQ3PXxw.
