We are excited to be part of a community dedicated to food education, and attending Pilot Light's Feed Your Mind Gala was a true highlight for us. As proud partners in the SnackTime Explorers program for FFVP-funded schools, we were eager to celebrate all the innovative ways Pilot Light incorporates their 7 Food Education Standards into K-12 curricula. This year's event was a tremendous success! Hosted by Antonti Porowski of the Netflix series, "Queer Eye," Pilot Light raised $680,000 to fund educational initiatives that promote food education and healthy eating habits for children. We have exciting news! The Ajana Family Foundation, a longstanding partner in our mission, has generously offered a?$50,000 MATCH to support the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program, which gives SNAP customers 50% off fresh fruits and vegetables. Here’s the catch: we only unlock the $50,000 if we can raise $50,000 by the end of this week. We’ve already seen 37 friends step up, and now we’re asking, will you join them? The issue is urgent. Due to an unexpected shortfall in funding, the DUFB program has been paused. This program is a lifeline for the 3,000 families on SNAP we serve every?week, making healthy, fresh food more affordable. With the program paused, your neighbors are not able to purchase fruits and vegetables for their families. If you believe healthy food should be affordable for everyone, now is the time to act. Your neighbors are struggling, but together we can make a difference. https://gofund.me/ede70960

Food insecurity is a worldwide problem that manifests itself locally in all our communities. Over the past few years, Curcio Webb, LLC’s holiday donation has been made to Chef José Andrés World Central Kitchen program. The World Central Kitchen teams are first on the spot wherever hot meals and human kindness are needed. Karen McKeon volunteered for a ? day volunteer shift Thursday, June 27th at Mercer Street Friends Food Bank.?In 2021, Karen directed her Curcio Webb charitable donation to Mercer Street Friends. At the time she shared that “the Mercer Street Friends Food Bank channels 5.5 million pounds of food and groceries annually to a network of over 100 local food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, meal sites, schools, senior and disabled programs, and low-income housing sites. Our food distribution and hunger prevention programs reach over 60,000 people who face the pain and indignity of hunger.” Five point five MILLION pounds annually—how impressive is that? The day Karen volunteered at the Food Bank they needed help labeling bags for “SHUP” (their Send HUnger Packing program).?SHUP is a "meal bag program that helps feed food insecure students over the weekend when they lack access to school meals."?It distributes 10,000 bags a month to students in need throughout Mercer County, New Jersey. Karen, your in-the-trenches work at the Food Bank is so important. Thank you! It’s not just students in Mercer County, New Jersey who run the risk of going hungry on the weekends. Curcio Webb is going to address local food insecurity for children at our upcoming annual company meeting. Brian Pieper and his wife Katie are spearheading an opportunity for us to pack bags of food for children to eat during the weekend. They’re tapping into a local program that helps kids get meals on weekends i.e., where they are already participating in a meals-at-school program. Are there suggestions from our wider community re programs that deserve our attention? Where do you like to volunteer your time and treasure -- in order to "Send Hunger Packing"? #foodbanks #foodinsecurity #givingback

That’s why we’ve joined the Albertsons Companies Foundation in a groundbreaking coalition to tackle summer hunger through the USDA’s new Summer EBT program. Partnering with @FeedingAmerica, @FRACtweets, @GiftCardBank, @HungerFreeUSA, @mRelief_form, @nokidhungry, and @PHAnews we’re reaching over 200 foodbanks, 300 school districts, and 1,500 organizations. Eligible families can get $120 per child for groceries. Check if you qualify at SummerEBT.org.

Healthy Kids through #food [vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height="20px"][vc_column_text]With our Healthy Kids Through Food program, we will be assisting the parents, caregivers, and communities to keep the #children healthy and able to attend the schools concentrated so that they will be better able to attain the knowledge they get in school. At the moment the program "Healthy Kids Through Food program" is in the planning phase, and we will soon be starting our campaign for donations and support. But the basic is that many children hardly find anything to eat every day; this affects their concentration and academic performance in class at school (if they opt to attend despite being hungry). Each day we hand out bagged meals to our clients who work offsite along with individuals who come to our front door seeking a meal. As summer approaches, and our need for bagged meals increases, you can help us feed the hungry by joining our Meal Bag Program and packing meals that we can hand out to those who need them! Here's how you can get started: 1. Pack lunches in a clear Ziploc bag and fill them with a granola bar or cracker pack, a small bag of chips or pretzels, a fruit cup packed in fruit juice (not syrup); raisins; or dried fruit 2. Please purchase items to make a sandwich (loaves of bread, turkey or ham slices, etc.) but do not pre-make the sandwiches 3. Optional— add a note of encouragement to let the person receiving the bagged meal know they are loved! 4. Knowing in warmer months we can hand out up to 200 meal bags a day, we kindly ask that you prepare and deliver at least 40 meals at a time. 5. Schedule a delivery time in advance at [email protected] or 984-272-2001 We're so grateful for the generosity of so many who have helped us sustain this program! And, the work must continue. Please join us in providing for the Raleigh community! ?? New grant for food justice for kids from Newman's Own Foundation. Great cause AND check out this language about the grant process: Newman’s Own Foundation and JustFund, a grant application platform created by funders and organizers of color to remove barriers in philanthropy, partnered to streamline this application for social change organizations. More on the grant: The Food Justice for Kids Prize will provide up to $1 million in funding to be shared among ten organizations (over two years). The call for grant applications is now open for eligible nonprofits (501c3 public charities), public schools, and tribes leading food justice programs. In the United States, more than 1 in 6 children (13.4 million people) live in households without access to nutritious food or knowing where their next meal will come from. Native and tribal communities face higher rates of food insecurity, as 1 in 5 Native Americans are food insecure. Eligible nonprofit organizations, public schools and districts, and federally recognized tribes are encouraged to find more information and apply online by Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm ET. FYI Crappy Funding Practices (any thoughts on the JustFund platform?) https://lnkd.in/eB9fB3E5
