That's BS and an industry-wide wake up call to create a workplace where everyone can show up fully. Today is National Coming Out Day (NCOD), a day that holds so much significance for the LGBTQ+ community. ?? As the chair/co-chair of the RepPride ERG at Reputation, Michael Bowles and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on this day, share our own coming out stories, and candidly discuss what today means for us. On NCOD, I am reminded of how important it is to create environments where everyone feels safe, seen, and celebrated. It is why we founded the RepPride ERG last year and continue to celebrate our community in the workplace. Coming out is a deeply personal journey. For some, it may feel empowering and liberating, while for others, it can be daunting and filled with uncertainty. What’s important to remember is that coming out isn’t a one-time event. It’s a lifelong process—one that we navigate each time we enter a new space, meet new people, or find ourselves in unfamiliar situations. LGBTQIA+ people do not fit the stereotypes that people have of them. They cannot be identified on the basis of mannerisms or physical characteristics. People who are lesbian, gay or bisexual come in as many different shapes, colours and sizes as do people who are heterosexual. Lesbian, gay and bisexual people are different from one another just like heterosexual people are different from one another. They have different personalities, likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, like everyone else. We begin the Pride Month with an insightful piece. As we step into Pride Month, I find myself reflecting on what this time means to me—not just as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but as someone who values diversity, acceptance, and love in all areas of life. June is Pride month. Commemorating the Stonewall riots, Pride Month is an inclusive celebration that honours our community, our history, achievements, and ongoing struggle for equality. I often come across posts across various social media platforms from people making statements such as "When is straight month?", "Why should they get an entire month to throw it down our throats?" or "It's disgusting and inhuman". It's these very comments that show why we still need to keep fighting for equality. This serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance, diversity, and love. It brings together individuals, organisations, and communities to advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and celebrate the progress made towards a more inclusive society. Lead with kindness, Love is Love.
