Now back to scheduled programmes… ???? I have to share this video and this man’s beliefs around the issues of Race. The mindset is exactly why we have so much discourse and conversations on #Race and #Skincolour and its weaponisation. He is creating a victim mentality when his privileges appear to be revoked; he appears to have no comprehension of the wider benefits of #inclusion and #Equity and that it is not exclusively bestowed to White People but to the Human Race. Now we can all, myself included have from our own perspective opinions that without #context or accuracy perpetuate beliefs that are tainted in misinformation and are outdated. It is very easy to align with ideas and values that hold a privilege we never want to loose. Be that gateways to accessing of resources/investment, the gate keeping of opportunities for ourselves or maintaining exclusivity to a membership of people that enhances our own resources. The issues surrounding Race and rights to access for all #Humanbeings is the one conversation that evokes the most passion from those that race and skin colour never precludes from living their everyday lives. The grunts of ‘Its always about race’ is a regular grumble from those fragile to discuss the obvious which continues to impact the lives of many. The Black and White issue far outdates the progress of change we should be seeing in the current. As such I will always align with what’s right and just, I will continue to open doors for those who look like me and it never means I exclude those who may not experience the same battles but are critical friends, allies and supporters for #change. To build inclusion we have to first recognise others when they are not in the room, when the warm culture, travel, food, fashion and so much more is enjoyed but the people are not included , we need to adjust the script with greater #awareness and Greater #enthusiasm. We have to do better and we know better. Pity this man feels so aggrieved as it’s much bigger than he wants to acknowledge. It’s #systemic and greater than what he knows and expresses. The guy narrating had me ???????? #raceandculture #humanbeingsisonerace #classandculture #raceandequality #equity #afairerworld

As I reflect on this heroic man's legacy, I cannot help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude for his sacrifices. Because of his efforts, so many of us(I included), can afford to live the lives that we currently live today. Not just people of African descent living in America, but all races, ethnicities and genders have benefited from his sacrifices. Being able to address inequality candidly when it needs to be addressed, whether in the workplace or outside of the workplace. Being able to break through some of the social glass ceilings as minority owned businesses and social justice advocates. Having representation of all races and genders in every aspects of our society. Having our 44th president of the United States, being of African descent, and the list goes on. Yes, let's not be naive and undermine the fact that we have quite a bit of ways to go, but we also have come a long way from the civil rights era (less than 60 years ago). Sometimes it's not just the end results that we need to focus on, but also the journey, the fight, and the progress that we have made (whether small or big). On this day, let us continue to also focus on the steps forward that we have achieved, while keeping our eyes on the prize for a more balanced society for the next generations to come. And for this reason, I will always be grateful and celebrate this holiday with full honor and the respect that it deserves. Representation matters. When young people see someone who looks like them breaking barriers, it sparks possibility. Whether it’s in sports, business, or any other industry, diversity creates a ripple effect that opens doors for others. The Do Something Movement!! ?? The Do Something Movement is a global movement of millions of young people making positive change, online and offline! 42% of people who are LGBT report living in an unwelcoming environment. 80% of gay and lesbian youth report severe social isolation. 6 in 10 LGBT students report feeling unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation. 90% of teens who are LGBT come out to their close friends. In 2013, 92% of adults who are LGBT said they believed society had become more accepting of them than in the past 10 years. Young people who are LGBT and who are “out” to their immediate families report feeling happier than those who aren’t. While non-LGBT students struggle most with school classes, exams, and work, their LGBT peers say the biggest problem they face is unaccepting families. In July 2009, the Senate approved the Matthew Shepard Act, which outlaws hate crimes based on both sexual orientation and gender identity. The Employment Nondiscrimination Act passed by Congress in 2007 is an act that prohibits discrimination of sexual orientation in the workplace, specifically during hiring. What if the family values we've been taught to cherish are nothing more than myths and, in fact, are dangerous? In this episode, historian and author of the book The Way We Never Were, Stephanie Coontz, helps us to understand the New Testament's radical interpretation of family, offering enlightening insights—and challenges the nostalgic allure of "traditional family values" often exploited in contemporary political discourse. We unmask the nostalgic fantasies fueling certain ideologies and question which eras are truly being glorified, exposing the social injustices that these idealized visions conveniently overlook. We discuss how skewed narratives around gender roles have been manipulated throughout history to justify inequality, examining early societies, where shared responsibilities and egalitarian structures were the norm, contrasting them with the myths used to hinder marginalized communities today. And, we address head-on the danger posed by the MAGA movement, utilizing false nostalgic political rhetoric to lull us into a sense of longing for a bygone era that never existed, and its potential impact on reproductive rights, women's liberty, the trans community, and race policy. There are repercussions to weaponizing "traditional values" in today's debates - and on the future of American democracy. Nostalgia isn't just a longing for the past—it's a tool that can be, is being, wielded by the Republican Party to maintain power and divert attention from current issues. In the episode, we explore the consequences of romanticizing a “simpler time,” particularly for women and the queer community, while highlighting the regressive agendas at play - the societal norms under threat, the democratic backsliding we face, and the paths forward to foster diverse and inclusive family structures. Stephanie's upcoming book, For Better and Worse, aims to further enlighten listeners about these pressing issues. #maga #republicans #gop #trump #jdvance #project2025 #election2025 #heritagefoundation #lgbtqia #reproductivehealth #reproductivefreedom #abortion #womenshealth #women #masculinity #peopleofcolor #politicalviolence #domesticviolence #1950s #supremecourt #christianity #whitechristiannationalism #genderinequality #misinformation #racialjustice #democracy #authoritarianism #patriarchy #traditionalfamily #family #traditional #nostalgia https://lnkd.in/giTGaGjQ

15 Phrases to Avoid Using in Conversations About Race It's commendable whenever people sit down and talk about race. By talking about it, they can devise solutions to unify people from various racial backgrounds. Unfortunately, some people derail conversations about race by saying phrases that come across as insensitive. To prevent that type of awkward situation, here are phrases to avoid using in conversations about race. 1. "You're So Exotic.” People use this phrase when they want to tell a foreigner they're beautiful in an unusual or strange way. Although complimenting someone is okay, you don't want to tell them that they’re strange-looking. If you must compliment someone's beauty without calling attention to their foreign background, say, "You're beautiful/handsome." 2. "I'm Not Racist, But…" This is a phrase that people normally say to try to overwrite a racist remark they're about to say. Typically, the remark that follows isn't factual but instead based on racial stereotypes, like, “I'm not racist, but I think black women are very loud.” If you’re generalizing a group of people it’s probably better to keep quiet. While you’re at it, you might want to brush up on your racial biases. 3. "You're Pretty for a (Insert Race Here) Man/Woman.” If you want to compliment someone's beauty, you should avoid this statement because it's backhanded.?Backhanded compliments?tend to make the other person question whether or not you intended to hurt them. For instance, this statement compliments someone's beauty while also implying that people from their race are usually unattractive. Like the exotic example, focus on telling them that they're beautiful and don’t drag their racial background in the process. 4. "I Have (Insert Race Here) Friends.” People normally use this phrase when they want to claim they can't possibly be racist since they have friends of a different race. Unfortunately, the phrase promotes tokenism because it makes you seem like you only befriend people from certain races to virtue signal. Therefore, your friends from diverse races will keep questioning whether or not you truly like them as a friend.

From Risha Grant ?? “Truth: You won’t be accepted for who you are until you start to show up for yourself. Radical acceptance takes courage and it starts with giving someone the opportunity to accept the real you.” - Authenticity is so important, and Risha recognizes that showing up as your authentic self isn’t always easy. It feels risky to make choices that reflect who you are and what makes you unique. Making a choice to show up as your true self puts you at risk of being rejected. Sometimes our authentic selves don’t fit with the larger culture we find ourselves in, so we try to minimize the parts of ourselves that make us unique and different. - As we celebrate Pride Month throughout June, let us remember that inclusion is about everyone. It is where we allow everyone the opportunity to be to themselves. - For more about authenticity, visit Risha’s keynote, “Radical Acceptance: Be Better Than Your BS,” which is also offered as a virtual event, as well! https://lnkd.in/g2SfkSq ?? - #Equality #Justice #DiversityAndInclusion #6DegreesSpeakerManagement #MotivationalSpeaker #RishaGrant #KeynoteSpeaker #Speaker #SpeakerManagement

I listened to Haben Girma speak last night. I was in awe of her determination, humour, courage and grace. She's the first deaf blind woman to graduate from Harvard Law school and today an amazing advocate for accessibility in all parts of life. At one moment in the speech, she told how she was often called "inspiring." She went on to say that to be be truly inspiring means the other person is moved to act, to do things differently, to enact change... Otherwise, the term is just a spruced-up way of masking pity and no one wants to be pitied. "Wow, she's right," I reflected to myself. How easy it to see something out of our comfort zone, experience a peak in our gratitude for life levels and keep on moving? It takes courage to take action. However, if we are to make the world more accessible, sustainable and equitable, to name a few, we need to start doing things differently. It doesn't take much. Adjust the trajectory of an arrow by 10 degree and it will land in completely different spot. What change might you be avoiding? What are three simple steps that you can do today to put the wheels in motion for a better tomorrow? As Ghandhi said, "Be the change you want to see." #accessibility #equality #change #leadership #sustainability

Creating more effective & robust workplaces, leaders & cultures ?? Inclusion, psychological safety & change agency ?? Consultant, trainer & keynote speaker ?? Fractional Non-Executive Director & Trustee ?? LGBTQ ?????
We need to re-frame DEI. With Trump 2.0 looming, multiple large companies (like Walmart, Ford Motor Company, Lowe's Companies, Inc., Toyota Motor Corporation, John Deere, Molson Coors Beverage Company and Jack Daniel's) rolling back their #DEI programmes or policies, and social media platforms (or, more specifically, Meta) now openly allowing hate speech and absurdly eschewing any need for fact-checking, it is clear that we need (especially) commercial organisations to realise that trite phrases like "go woke, go broke" are actually directly opposed to reality. In fact, inclusion is an unequivocably proven positive for business: ?? increasing levels of #productivity, #engagement, #loyalty and #retention, ?? helping to future-proof the business by encouraging #innovation and better problem-identification and solving, and ?? consequently, enhancing the bottom line of #profit. In summary: practising #inclusion is good for business. It is not just the RIGHT thing to do; it is also the BEST thing to do. So we need to push back against the tide of misinformation by re-focusing everyone's attention on the positive value that DEI, when implemented correctly, actually creates. In that context, I was happy recently for the chance to sit down with Khong Xiong on The Purpose Tune Podcast, for a discussion during which, among many other topics, we delved into: ?? my ambition to encourage a re-framing of DEI as Disruption + Elevation = Innovation ?? my 3i's (?????????) model - Intrapersonal, Interpersonal and Impersonal - by which critical change agents in this space can create and maintain the focus needed to achieve real progress ?? the importance of change agents like #EmployeeResourceGroups and #PeopleLeaders in fostering an environment of increased awareness, #PsychologicalSafety, and - ultimately - team and organisational success.
