The Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS) prepares leaders, change agents, and organization development practitioners through small group experiential education to pursue and achieve individual, business, and social justice goals. We focus on: ?? -Use of Self?(Developing unique presence)? -Group Process?and Intact Workgroup Development (Boss and direct reports)? -Whole Organization Change (Systems thinking) LIOS is a competency-based program meaning students must demonstrate mastery of skills to pass. LIOS teaches models, skills, and tools in a group setting and grounds the learning in experience. We use the group experience to more easily and reliably transfer learning into practice. Students are learning by doing rather than just thinking. ?? BiT CDC and BiT Student Union Continue Leadership Training with a Focus on Effective Communication ???? Today, the BiT Career Development Center, in partnership with the BiT Student Union, hosted our second leadership training session, focusing on a skill crucial for every leader: communication for impact. ???? Led once again by the insightful Habtamu Alemayehu (MSc in Structural Engineering), the session was centered around overcoming common communication barriers and learning how to communicate with clarity and purpose. Key takeaways from today's session included: Talking more doesn't equal effective communication: Sometimes, less is more. Leaders need to focus on concise messaging and active listening to make a real impact. ???? Identifying communication barriers: Participants shared their personal experiences, discussing everything from not thinking thoroughly before speaking to the challenge of conveying messages clearly and succinctly. ???? The session was highly interactive, sparking meaningful discussions and reflection among participants. Tasks were assigned to help practice these new skills, which we will follow up on in future sessions. A huge thank you to Habtamu for continuing to guide us with his valuable insights and time. ??
