Feeling the Imposter Syndrome for the First Time in My Life!
After over two decades in tech sales, transitioning to selling beer to high-end restaurants has introduced me to something unfamiliar—imposter syndrome. Without a background in the craft beer business or experience working with top-tier restaurants, it’s been a steep learning curve.
The restaurant side has started to feel more comfortable, especially after working with some of the world's best and receiving great feedback on our products.
But the craft beer world is still daunting. I'm a complete newcomer doing something different from everyone else in the industry, and some people say it’ll never be a "real" business. That kind of skepticism can really shake your confidence.
My last major imposter syndrome moment was in late July. We hosted a 4+1 course tasting menu with beer pairings for over 20 people from some of Europe’s leading craft breweries. Putting our work in front of breweries I’ve admired for years was truly humbling.
Now, the next challenge feels even bigger. Later this month, I’ll be speaking at the Brewers Congress in London—on the main stage, on the opening day! To top it off, I’ll be following talks by David Gluckman, the creator of Bailey's (yes, that Bailey's!), Radim Zvánovec from Budvar, and Mark Tranter, founder of Burning Sky.
So, while I’m incredibly excited, I’m also feeling terrified about the upcoming presentation. Wish me luck!
