Good leaders make everyone feel safe to share ideas and make mistakes. But the reality is, most CEOs are unintentionally creating cultures of silence. A study by Harvard Business Review found that a whopping 85% of employees withhold their ideas out of fear of being ridiculed or punished. That's a staggering number, and it's a massive missed opportunity for growth. If your team is constantly worried about getting shut down, how likely are they to bring you their best, most innovative ideas? How likely are they to take calculated risks that could lead to breakthroughs? Here's the different way to approach this: - Reward experimentation, not just success. Celebrate "smart failures" and encourage your team to learn from mistakes. - Create psychological safety. Make it clear that open communication and healthy debate are valued. - Focus on solutions, not blame. When things go wrong, shift the focus to finding solutions together, not assigning blame.
