These communities are the last remnants of a world untouched by modernity, carrying invaluable knowledge and cultural heritage. Yet, their existence is fragile, threatened by encroaching civilization, resource exploitation, and violence. It's our duty to amplify their voices, respect their boundaries, and safeguard their future. As a network engaged in substance use research, we embrace the guiding principle of Etuaptmumk - Two-Eyed Seeing as shared by Elders Albert and Murdena Marshall, integrating Indigenous knowledge with Western science to foster holistic insights and promote continuous commitment to learn, engage and share knowledge. Today, we celebrate the profound impacts Indigenous peoples have had on our world.?By embracing Indigenous ways of knowing, we continue to rebuild and strengthen the networks of wisdom that have stood the test of time. We honor and support Indigenous businesses, artists, and cultural heritage, recognizing the invaluable contributions these bring to our shared future. As an ally to Indigenous communities, I believe it is crucial to support and uplift their rights ????. Witnessing the systemic injustices faced by Indigenous peoples, from land dispossession to cultural erasure, has fueled my passion for advocating for their rights. We must stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities and amplify their voices to create a more equitable and just society. By supporting Indigenous rights, we are not only honoring their rich cultures and traditions but also working towards reconciliation and healing.
