Did you know there are 3 types of inspections you should be doing for your rigging gear? Those inspections are: Initial, Frequent, and Periodic. All three are important for safety while using rigging gear. On today’s episode of Safety Saturday, Tim guides us through each of the three types of inspections for rigging gear and their importance for keeping employees safe while using rigging gear. The initial inspection is visual to make sure tags are present and the setup matches. The frequent inspection is hands-on to check for damage and should be conducted prior to each use. The periodic inspection is extensive and should be conducted every 12 months. Additionally, chain slings, which are one of the most common pieces of rigging equipment, require extra attention to detail when being inspected. Until next week, from everyone at W. L. French, stay safe out there! #ConstructionSafety?#Rigging?#ChainSlings?#StayPrepared?#SafetySaturday?#SafebyChoice?#wlfrench?#WEMOVEBOSTON

ROUGH TERRAIN CRANE A rough terrain (RT) crane is a mobile crane that is capable of maneuvering in unpacked, uneven ground, as well as lifting in confined spaces. They are made especially for rough locations, so they’re built differently than other types of cranes. This type of crane tends to have a wider base and wheels, which is what gives them great stability. Their wheels are also taller than the average crane’s because they need additional clearance to move easily on uneven ground without risking damage to the machine. They have four-wheel drive and power-steering, which helps make maneuvering in rough terrains manageable. This comment emphasizes the importance of investing in quality rigging components and highlights a crucial point: while rigging gear may seem like a small cost, lives are irreplaceable. Encouraging connections with knowledgeable suppliers?reinforces the value of expert guidance to prevent accidents and ensure safety. Offering to connect others with trusted professionals across the country is a meaningful way to promote a safety-first approach in the rigging industry.
Another Rigging related Incident in Vancouver. While it's too early to know the exact cause, I want to point out that slings and shackles are cheap. Lives are irreplaceable. Quite often I visit sites where a minimal amount of rigging is used for a diverse range of lifts. There are a lot of very intelligent people in the rigging supply industry. Take the time to find who that person is in your region and establish a relationship. The education you receive will far outweigh the pennies you saved on disposable slings. If you dont have "a rigging go-to person" in your network, please contact me. I am fortunate enough to know many brilliant minds across this great country and I am happy to connect you with someone near you. #crane #incident #rigging #safety #awareness #construction #sling #hoist #inspection #recertification #lifting #Canada
