You know when you stumble upon your favorite song from high school playing on the radio, only to discover that you’ve somehow tuned to the Oldies station? Ah, crap. That’s what it feels like to step into The Hard Rock Puerto Vallarta. As a member of Generation X, I love The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Gun N’ Roses. But I’m also aware that a lot of great music has been created this century. Yet, there are very few references at the hotel to any artists or songs from after 1990. There’s such a great opportunity to update and evolve this brand. For example, showcasing some current artists and expanding into music genres beyond rock & roll would make the hotel more relevant to travelers born after the Carter administration. Purists will say: “You don’t get it. It’s called the ‘Hard Rock Hotel’ and so it should only focus on rock & roll.” My response: “The Cheesecake Factory doesn’t only serve cheesecake.” Additionally, the Hard Rock Hotel’s awkward insertion of classic rock lyrics and rock lingo into every aspect of the guest experience is pure dad joke. “General admission” — a sticker on the toilet paper roll. “Get some satisfaction” — on the front of a menu. “Love in an elevator” — emblazoned above the elevators. Are any of those funny? Even to a dad? (They aren’t.) Perhaps this oldies station vibe is part of the plan. With phase 2 an expansion into assisted living. ?I mean, it worked for Margaritaville with their over-50 Latitude villages in Florida. That may make sense. Because as it’s currently designed, Hard Rock Hotels’ target guest isn’t just aging out.?They’re dying out. #hospitalityindustry??#hotelsandmotels #hotelier

New Post: Europe’s oldest nightclub La Paloma in Barcelona re-opens - https://lnkd.in/gCPsVVxy - The oldest nightclub in Europe, Barcelona’s La Paloma, has announced it has permanently re-opened after several years of closure. READ MORE:?2023 was “worst year for venue closures” while “no one in music industry seems to care”, say MVT The historic baroque ballroom, which first opened as far back as 1903, has been operating a phased re-opening in recent months after closing its doors in 2007. Now, it has confirmed the 1000-capacity venue will boast a full club programme in Autumn 2024, including sets from the likes of Hot Chip, Nightmares On Wax, Fantastic Man, Machinedrum and Theo Parrish. Located on the border of the Sant Antoni and Raval districts of the Catalan city, the club is switching to its ‘tardeo’ or late schedule for the autumn and winter months, meaning it will be open between 19:30 and 02:00 on club nights. Other artists announced for the season include Antal, Danilo Plessow B2B Hugo LX, Mainline Collective, Loco Bingo, Egyptian Lover, Luke Una, Mr. Bongo, Ruby Savage, GAZZI, Chico Blanco, Toy Tonics DJs and Bradley Zero. As part of its phased re-opening so far, it has already welcomed the likes of Adrian Sherwood, David Rodigan, Gilles Peterson and Francois K. The good news is a welcome respite from the challenging few years that have inflicted the live entertainment industry. A report this week revealed, for instance, that the UK lost 480 nightclubs between June 2020 and June 2024. The?Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) reported the massive decline in the number of venues still operating, emphasising the urgent need for support and intervention. The NTIA?revealed earlier this year that?31 per cent of nightclubs in the UK were forced to close last year. In May, it was revealed that?the first three months of 2024 alone saw a devastating loss of 67 nightclubs. The NTIA has called for immediate government action, explaining that the shuttering of nightclubs reflects a broader crisis in the UK’s night time cultural economy. The association has urged the Chancellor to extend business rates relief in the Autumn budget as a way to ease the financial burden on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and as a way to ensure their survival. In a similar vein, back in January,?the results were shared for 2023 – revealing a “disaster” that hit grassroots music venues?across the 12 months. Among the key findings into their “most challenging year”, it has been reported that last year saw 125 UK venues abandon live music and that over half of them had shut entirely –?including the legendary Moles in Bath. Some of the more pressing constraints were reported as soaring energy prices, landlords increasing rate amounts, supply costs, business rates, licensing issues,?noise complaints?and the?continuing shockwaves of COVID-19. Art for Art sake - money for God’s sake I, in a past life, was a music festival caterer selling wood- fired pizza - in deed my daughter Caitlin still owns and run a much smaller version of that business At one of these festivals I was privileged to meet 10CC who told me their parents, when they were just starting out in the music business were most upset about their choice of profession quoting the above phrase Fortunately they were not put off by this “sensible” advice and of course the above phrase became the title of one of their many hits. 10CC found a way of making money from their art Repurposing and converting old, redundant buildings is a mix of both art and the making of money. If you can do that, mix your passion with your business - well it’s just a lot more enjoyable experience and I think retaining Society’s street scape and history adds to everybody’s pleasure and as you have to work with the building, results in unique dwellings and holiday spaces which is a breath of fresh air in a modern standardised world Of course that is me, others are only interested in square footage , but I do think “ beauty, volume and history” has a value of its own and fortunately I am not alone in so thinking #propertydevelopment #selfcateringholiday #shorttermlet #housingemergency #propertyinvestment #citybreak

With Halloween around the corner, here’s a strategy for today (Listen with sound on if you want to hear spooky music) Beware of flat surfaces. They can be a magnet for your stuff and can get out of control very quickly…turning into *gasp* clutter! Here are 3 tips to help keep things more manageable: 1) Remember the difference between storage spaces & living places (storage spaces are where you store things, living places are where you do activities) and avoid mixing them up. This dining room table was once a living place and now has turned into a storage space. 2) Put things away (or let-go) right away (which means the stuff needs to have a designated storage place) 3) Each day/night set aside 5-10 minutes to clear flat “living” places so they are ready for you & your family the next day. For more tips & to learn strategies you can apply right away, reach out to Functional Living with April to schedule an in-home consultation or to register for one of the upcoming workshops at: https://lnkd.in/ghfYjQb7 Music: Creepy Music BoxMusician: SoundGalleryByDmitryTarasSite: https://lnkd.in/gy5ZvQxA #functionalliving #letgoandsimplify #decluttering

VALUE PROPOSITION ??? Value proposition can also be thought of as: What is the value of a thing or an experience to a buyer. Arts organizations think, understandably, that what's happening on stage is the value proposition. But when I was with the symphony, and I asked a group of patrons in a focus group to bring in an object that represented their experience. Only 2 of 24 brought in something related to music. ?? The rest brought in an extraordinarily disparate set of objects: Opera length gloves (Because it's the one place they felt they got to really dress up) ?? A Duracell battery (Because it recharges them) ?? And even, a picture of the bread pudding served in the lobby restaurant. (He made sure to note that the concerts were great, but the bread pudding was truly next level). ?? The point being, yes, the art form is central to your value, but there's so much more. And ultimately it is the end state, that feeling you have while you exit the concert that matters. The chance to feel fancy, or be reinvigorated, or even, satiated. It starts with the art, but everything else (box office, email, website, ushers, bartenders, parking, etc...) factors more heavily than you might imagine. When I lived in Seattle I had a subscription to the opera. I would come and have a cocktail and people watch before the performance. It was REALLY good people watching. ?? And the cocktail was very nice too. And then I go in to the performance. And sometimes at intermission, I would go home finding that particular opera wasn't my cup of tea. It took a while before I realized that a big part of what I was paying for was that pre-show martini. ?? It was a VERY expensive martini once you factored the ticket into the equation. And totally worth it. ??

New Post: The 100 Most Iconic Guitars of All Time (Nos.?100-51) - https://lnkd.in/dzcbCdBK - From the blues to jazz to rock to folk to country, the guitar is probably the most pivotal instrument of the 20th century, serving as a centerpiece for a variety of genres that changed the course of culture in America and around the world. In honor of the stringed instrument that has amped up audiences for centuries, we present Billboard’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitars of All Time. No, that’s not a typo. This is not a list of 100 guitarists – though each item on this list is associated with a particular guitar slinger. And it’s not a list of guitar brands or companies. This is a list of actual guitars, played by great guitarists. It puts the shine on guitars throughout modern history that have been a part of the evolution of popular music. Instead of focusing on guitar playing style, we’re looking at the instrument itself as handled by various luminaries across everything from bluegrass to heavy metal. What is “the greatest”? Iconic, influential, inventive, famous, game changing? Unusual, oddball, beautiful, even whimsical? Just plain cool? It’s all of that and more. Some of the guitars that follow are standard models with minimal modifications; others are one-of-a-kind pieces that have been endlessly tinkered with. Some are technical and auditory wonders; others have been beaten to hell over the years by overzealous owners. But all are important to the guitar’s history and ongoing evolution. This was a big undertaking that we didn’t want to do alone. We invited a panel of ace guitarists across a variety of genres, as well as journalists and experts, to peruse a lengthy list of guitars, compiled by Billboard, and vote on them. We invited our voters to submit their own picks. After tallying their responses, we sent it back to the voting panel, solicited additional feedback and incorporated that into a final list of the 100 Greatest Guitars of All Time. In addition to a few voters who wished to remain anonymous, the voting panel included: Duane Betts, Nick Bowcott of Sweetwater, Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket, Larry Campbell, Joanna Connor, Michael Doyle of Guitar Center, Alejandro Escovedo, Pete Evick of Bret Michaels Band, Damian Fanelli of Guitar World, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Slim Gambill of Lady A, Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge and Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr, Dave Mason, Scott Metzger, Bob Mould, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick, Orianthi, Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Joe Satriani, Chris Scapelliti of Guitar Player, Peter Stroud of Sheryl Crow’s band, Matthew Sweet, Mark Tremonti of Creed and Alter Bridge, Seth Walker, Erika Wennerstrom of Heartless Bastards, Jack White, Andy Wood and Oliver Wood. This week, we’re rolling out the firs
