To design products and experiences for people, we have to understand them. That's the essence of human-centered design and being empathy led. Our guest, Greg Nelson, offers a simple formula for being able to flex our empathy muscle: Self-awareness + Curiosity = Empathy To better understand others, we first have to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves-- our needs, wants, aspirations, fears and insecurities. Then we have to approach others with curiosity-- a genuine interest in getting to know them and understanding the reference points that shape their version of reality. Don't miss the full conversation tomorrow. This is Empathy Led, EP 08/ S 03 with Greg Nelson . . . hashtag #EmpathyLed #humanCentered #HumanCenteredDesign #Design

Let's talk about a sudden need to design with a new set of constraints. I've had to re-route how I do life a handfull of times due some freak accidents, being a serious athlete, and a chronic condition. This time I skidded out downhill on my bike in front of my home and am left concussed and crutched (the day before the election). To design a new way of living when a big 'ol unexpected constraint is suddenly forced on you is one of the ultimate tests of grace and agility in how we navigate this world. What the design process often doesn't account for is grief, spaciousness, and the ether in between interactions that fuel or drain us. It doesn't account much for burnout or lack of motivation to create change and a refueling of human agency in times of struggle. What it does account for is mustering any bit of energy left for creativity among constraints. For what once was a big world to me -- every day a bike ride or a trail or jumping in the ocean or a dance class or a talk or a trip to see friends and family (gosh this sounds very dreamy and privileged) -- is now a drive down to the grocery store parking lot to find a speck of sun and watch the people in the coffee shop next door. And occasionally write poems about them. I decided that I would find novelty in the regularity of something smaller. Many days, I do not love it -- my body screams to move -- my mind needs to connect dots and people. Other days, I'm grateful for a set of constraints that once again allows me to build empathy for others who navigate the world differently and design creative outcomes to keep engaged, in communion and outside. ?? What's one new ritual or interaction you designed when you have had a twist in life that provided a set of constraints?

Design is NOT Subjective, It’s Strategic How often have you heard: ? "Yaar, maza nahi aaya!" ? "This doesn’t look good!" ? "Why is there so much white space?" Here’s the thing: Design isn’t about personal preferences. It’s not about what feels good it’s about what works. Design is rooted in science, psychology, and human behavior. It’s a process aimed at delivering outcomes, not just aesthetics. Designing based on gut feelings or guesses? That’s a recipe for inconsistent results. So, how do we move away from guesswork to meaningful, impactful design? ?? Start with research. ?? Use data to inform your choices. ?? Understand your audience and their behavior. Great design isn’t magic—it’s strategy brought to life! #DesignStrategy #HumanCenteredDesign #PsychologyOfDesign #WhiteSpaceMatters #DesignThinking #OutcomeDrivenDesign #CreativityMeetsLogic

Reevaluating Mentalities in Design: Does “Just Do It” Still Work? Design isn’t just about making things—it’s about intention. Sure, “Just Do It” nails a certain drive, but is it still the right mindset for the world we’re in? I don’t think so. For me, design starts with questions: ? Who’s it for? ? What’s it solving? ? How’s it making life better? It’s bigger than just creating—it’s about taking responsibility. We don’t need more just to have more. We need better. Better answers, better products, better purpose. That’s what I mean when I say it’s not about just doing it—it’s about doing it right.
