In collaboration with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory has developed cutting-edge robotics for satellite servicing in geostationary orbit. This technology aims to revolutionize satellite maintenance by enabling in-orbit repairs, upgrades and adjustments, extending satellites' lifespans and reducing operators' costs. #SpaceInnovation Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e6dmzSP4
I'd love to be involved with the R&D of this type of machinery. All the challenges I can think of would be fun to try to overcome. Challenges from the environment of outer space I'd guess would be the biggest. Temperature, radiation, vacuum vs pressure and the transition from one to the other during launch, G forces during launch, weight savings to be easier/cheaper to launch/deploy, powering the device and refueling... this sounds so interesting to me.
