I am currently exploring best practices and protocols for conducting dental examination under anaesthesia (EUA), specifically for persons with special needs and unique requirements (severe learning disabilities). I would love to hear from fellow professionals and experts in the field: *What are the clinical indications for dental examination under general anaesthesia in patients with special needs and requirements?* Particularly, if patient is uncooperative, unable to tolerate routine dental assessment, lacks capacity, without any obvious signs and symptoms of odontogenic infection. Your insights and experiences will be incredibly valuable in understanding the nuanced considerations and ensuring we provide the best care for these patients with complex needs and usually lacking capacity. Because many adults with #diabetes, #prefrailty, #mildcognitiveimpairment, #congestiveheartfailure, #COPD, or other chronic disorders will get to their doctor but not their dentist (if they have one). NHS GP Patient Survey 2024 Results Are In! ?? The latest GP Patient Survey has been published, offering valuable insights into patient experiences across general practice, NHS dentistry, and, for the first time, community pharmacy! ??? Survey Period: 2 January - 25 March 2024 ?? Nearly 700,000 responses collected Key Findings: ?? 73.9% of patients had a good overall experience with their GP practice ?? 67.3% reported a positive experience contacting their GP practice ?? 55.9% were satisfied with out-of-hours NHS services ?? 69.2% had a good experience with NHS dental services ?? 86.8% were pleased with NHS pharmacy services This year’s survey marks the beginning of a new data series, so direct comparisons to previous years aren't possible due to changes in the survey and methodology. Blackpool mum removed six-year-old child's teeth with pliers as she could not get a dentist. This crisis will not get better but much worse as we are simply not training enough dentists. Over the last 14 years the population figures have gone up by millions in the UK and we need to have a huge expansion in healthcare provision and provide it free at the point of use. The tooth is an organ and thus should be covered by the NHS. The NHS provides some care that is borderline elective and non life threatening. However, teeth are now creating hospital admissions as decay is creating abscesses which are leading to blood poisoning. It's ridiculous and another crazy free market plan that has failed.
