“The last four years have been a long, strange trip.” That’s the sentiment I shared with Stateline about the staggering number of new state-level voting law changes since 2020. Since COVID hit, we’ve seen some positive state- and local-level reforms like expanding access to vote by mail, and more pathways to voter registration. We’ve also seen a host of incredibly harmful laws that restrict access to the vote and interfere with the electoral process — to a tee, those policies can be traced back to the conspiracy theories that drive the Big Lie. Every one of those laws — those that expand ballot access and those that make it harder to vote — will have an impact on election officials and voters alike, this November and beyond. I voted. Hey y'all, the early voting polls were busy so I can only imagine what November 5th is going to look like. You might want to consider voting early to avoid standing in long lines, especially if you have a physical or medical challenge. EARLY VOTING ENDS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND. {Time varies by location} As a former Officer of Election here are a few things to note: ●If you have a disability and are unable to walk into the building, an election official is required to bring a ballot to your car for you to complete. It's called "curbside voting." ●If you have difficulty reading or completing a form you can ask an election official to provide assistance. They are required to help you. You can also bring an assistant with you. ●It's unlawful for any person to loiter or congregate within 40 feet of the poll entrance. Officers of Elections will be stationed outside and inside of the building to assist you and answer any questions you may have regarding ballot content and the voting process. ●If you're in line and the polls close while you're waiting to cast your ballot you have the right to remain in the line until you vote. It's unlawful for anyone to ask you to leave the line before you've voted. POLLS CLOSE AT 7PM.
