Engagement is a funny community metric. Perhaps we chose it because so many others across the business also use a similar word to represent that "signal" that someone is doing something. But in my opinion, engagement isn't what we should chase. Rather, we should focus on doing things together, and community teams should stop building for themselves and shift to working with the very people involved—our members or those we're trying to reach. A wise person once told me, we have two ears and one mouth so we can listen more and talk less. So stop pushing community and driving engagement and instead explore what you can do together. That's how a true community takes shape and blossoms. What challenges have you faced in measuring the success of community building efforts, and how did you overcome them? --- Btw, if you want to create your B2B community on Slack, Tightknit makes the entire process dead simple. Love this, Scott!!! “Stop chasing engagement metrics. You need the right people doing the right things.” ????
Say it louder for the back (and investors). Loved this!
Love the video format Scott Baldwin - very insightful!
"Stop chasing engagement and instead do things together" is such a powerful statement. It fits perfectly with what we're working on right now for our Community. Thanks for sharing, Scott, well said!
Listening is key! Have you found specific methods that effectively gather member feedback for community growth?
Shifting from engagement metrics to collaboration can transform community dynamics. What strategies have worked best for you in fostering genuine collaboration?
Sick Clip Scott Baldwin. We whole heartedly agree. Do things together and the engagement and inclusion will grow and spread on its on. Just like revenue and pipeline. Do the right things and curate content helpful personable content for your audience and the low hanging fruit will come to you.
Great stuff and an important reminder. Something I need to do more of. Shared this post in a reply to a Gainsight community question about driving engagement, as it has stuck with me since I say it the other day.
